Is it normal that i act like characters in the animes i watch?

I am not sure if I am wording this correctly, but I feel that after I watch an entire, no, maybe even a few episodes of an Anime series, I start to act, think, and talk at little like my favourite characters in that series.

Last week I finished the Anime series Death Note.

Since then I have been jokingly told that I have started to act and talk like L, my favourite character in the series. I have noticed this myself, as lately I have been phrasing my sentences differently and talking in a much more logical way; And lately whenever I sit in a chair in my home or somewhere I won't be stared at, I'll sit like L does.

I have also noticed that I have started to think more thoroughly about future plans and schedules, and my friends have said that I have been more determined to win in the athletics for school lately, which sounds a lot like Light Yagami's, my second favourite character's behaviour, as he doesn't like losing.

I would never think the exact same thoughts as him of course, that's the only thing I don't like about Light - that he's pretty much insane.

This is probably the weirdest question I've ever posted on this, but:

Is It Normal that after watching an Anime series, I start to behave, think, and talk like my favourite characters?

Reply with serious answers, please. This is a serious question.

Oh and also, this kind of behaviour usually wears off in about a week.

I don't watch anime, however, when I used to watch House all the time I would start acting like him. Friends would tell me to quit watching it because I was being too mean.

    • Haha, well I have been told I that I am acting strange lately..

and that I should lay off the cake and ice cream..
that bit was a joke to anyone who watches Death Note ;)

But seriously. If you want to keep watching House just watch other things aswell, not at the same time of course, like one day watch House, another day watch something else. It distracts your brain and your behaviour will fade a little.

Hahahahaha! Yea it's totally normal! I'm just like this too. Lately I've found myself making everything symmetrical( death the kid) and sitting like L. Honestly I just think that is the things you get from an otaku

I think it goes both ways. I think people like shows that have characters they identify with, so then it makes what happens to you probably easier and more logical to reason.

On another note, perhaps you should not watch Dexter. Lmao

I have the same problem, well in some sense, because after I watched Death Note I started acting like L (my 1st favorite character :D) ALOT but I think it is normal and I also think it is awesome! ;)

People are what they eat, read, listen to, watch, and want to be.

If you know someone's diet, books, music, movies, and wishes you'd have a pretty good idea of what kind of person they are wouldn't you?

        • Yeah.. but try not to judge people by their lifestyle, they could be totally different on the inside.

True, and I don't judge people unless I know them, but in general you can figure a person out with what they like.

  • IMO they ruined the ending. Light should have lived and continued punishing criminals. And what the fuck was that shit, a 10 year old outsmarting a college guy who had perfect marks and all. Anyways, read yagami backwards.

    • Haha very funny with the Yagami backwards. I hate it when people find something immature to say about a very mature anime.

Emulating something that has a positive outcome in your life is never a bad thing. As long as it is not obsessive. You seem to subliminaly acting out in very positive way. As long as it doesnt go too far and become fantasy for you, who cares? We all have real people and characters from fiction we admire and try to learn amd take ideas from. Life is complicated. Use what you have to your advantage, whether its an anime character or not is irrelevant...
    Cheers.

    • Haha, well I prefer your comment to the one above. It isn't an obsession, and if I watch something else my behaviour will fade slightly. I like to think it is a positive thing, as I have thought about things more which has helped a lot in day to day life. And being determined to win has it's advantages too. But whenever I start acting the way I do after watching Anime I always make sure to try to distract myself from that behaviour and make sure it doesn't become an obsession.

Sorry for typos I am in a hurry, thanks.

  • Its normal, usually its little kids that do it though. I myself dont act like any character out of Death note but I have "some" of the same opinions as Light Yagami does about how to make a perfect world, although there is no point actualy trying to become an anime character because its make believe so dont waste your life trying to do so. There was a killer in Japan that called himself "Kira" after leaving a note saying "I am Kira" and I went on youtube to research it abit more and all I could find was these stupid little kids trying to act like L saying "I will catch you Kira" etc. They completely lost their touch with reality and in that they became nothing like L, You are or will be no different from those kids.
