Is it normal that i absolutely despise modern music?
I can not stand modern music these days. It's invasive, in poor taste, unimaginative, and repetitive. Is this normal? How many people share my view?

Modern music defines a lot of different music (basically everything made the last 10 years)
I like a lot of music, but I do not like most the mainstream music that is regularly played on the radio. I don't like a lot of the older mainstream stuff either, but some of the stuff now is just awful.
Part of this is because people make most music with computers now and anybody can do it, which lets unoriginal crap get on the radio.
I'm a musician and use computers but I also use real insturments as well and use a variety of styles. I like some other stuff that is newer but most of the stuff I enjoy is underground. Try turning off the radio and download different kinds of music off the internet to find something you enjoy.
You despise ALL modern music?
Somehow I doubt it.
What gets on the radio / in the billboard charts represents less than 1% of the music being created and shared with the world. It's a really poor reflection of modern music as a whole. There is, in my opinion, some beautiful, imaginative, inventive music coming out now, as much (if not more) than ever before.
Of course, unless you're into shitty club anthems or pop for preteens, you have to dig for it.
Thanks to the internet, you're no longer beholden to the labels, the television or the radio to define your music taste, you can explore every type of music available and develop your taste.
So I don't think it's normal to despise all modern music, but I do think it's normal to despise most of what makes it into the charts.
I am glad that things like dubstep are finally starting to fade out of popularity. Pretty much everything else needs to die out too. Its weird. Bugs is right about mainstream music not having the use of real instruments and everything being made on a computer. Whenever I see or hear someone say "yeah drop da bass" or something like that I feel something inside me die and and never return.
Only modern music that really absolutely sucks is mainstream pop and hip hop as they've become very generic and unoriginal
Another person that seems to forget that the only music you really hear today from the past are the "best" ones from that time and all the absolute terrible ones were left in the past.
Just because you hear the best of the past music does not mean even half of the past's music was good.
Most people tend to forget that just because you see terrible music in mainstream media that does not mean that they are the only songs of this time out there.
Agreed. I'm not a music expert and I don't claim to have an "exquisite" taste in music, but dang. Some of this new music is beyond terrible. I-G-G-Y, who dat who dat. Yikes lol. I don't even listen to the radio and I can't get away from these ridiculous "tunes."
I went to a Motley Crue concert recently and it was a breath of fresh air. I was also happy to see that some people besides my friends were around my age. I'm fairly young (24). I had a great time as expected.
It was outside. The crowd went crazy for Smokin in the Boys Room. Personally, I thought Shout at the Devil was their best performance of the night. Most of what they played was from the first five albums(up to Dr. Feelgood), which I was more than okay with lol. For the last song(Home Sweet Home), they got on the center stage and were hoovering above us. It was bitter sweet.
Really? Do you mean the music on the radio or any? Because I hate all radio garbage and usually listen to artists that have less than 5k fans. That's where the true talent lies.
Most modern music is crap but there are still good artists out there. What is pushed in the media is the worst of the worst...I hate music and rap and Lady Kaka and all that crap. The day Justin Beiber got punched in the face was a dream come true, lol.
I don't like a lot of music that other people do like. I don't like a lot of underground music, mainstream music, old music, new music, etc. I like a lot of bands/artists in which I don't typically like a lot of bands/artists in their genre. I'm incredibly picky and most people don't like what I like. There are really only about 6 or so genres of music I like as a whole. I don't like -any- rap or country.
These are all preferences in music. Whether people disagree with them or hate me for them, it doesn't make any less normal as a person. You aren't any less normal, either.
Agree 100% with disthing a lot of radio music is meh at best but there are a ton of insrument led bands and even post rock shoegaze bands where the instruments take priority over anything and there's still innovasion going on. What are some genres you're into op? mabye I can make some recommendations
I'm not fond of the "music" that these major record labels constantly promote and push out like someone taking a shit. It sounds empty, generic, and sometimes even overproduced. I can't listen to most modern and commercialised music because, it literally makes me feel like shit and it changes me as a person. There's nothing enriching about it. I do highly suggest that you listen to independent/foreign music. You are sure to find a lot of talented people this way. :)
