Is it normal that i’m 20 and my girlfriend is 17?

I’m 20 years old and I’m about to turn 21. My girlfriend is 17, but she turns 18 two months after I turn 21. We’ve had sex, and her parents are aware of that. My family is trying to tell me that I need to be careful, because she’s younger than me. Age of consent in my state is 16. She’s a senior in high school, set to graduate in a few months. We’ve been together a little over a year now. My thought process on this is that further on down the line, that 3 year gap won’t matter. When I’m 50 no one is going to care if she is 47, if we make it that far.

That age gap will be noticeable thru your 20s, but will fade to nothing soon after.

  • If you said you were 20 and she was 15, that would be abnormal. She's almost 18. Who cares?

When I was 16, I dated an 18-year-old. And when I was 17, I dated a 24-year-old. I'm now 21 and dating a 27-year-old. I don't think there's anything wrong with an age difference, as long as you don't have sex under age 18 and as long as it's not a HUGE age difference like 10+ years.

"We’ve had sex, and her parents are aware of that."

That's pretty fucking weird, but the age gap thing is normal.

You don't need to be careful, she's almost 18, sure she's young but she knows her own mind. You're fine, not a weird age gap
