Is it normal that he hasn't thanked me?

Let's call him Phil. So my friends and I got together at Phil's place. We were just hanging out and then we started drinking.

Two out of the five of us ended up sober (I was one of them) one was a little drunk and then a friend(call her Jane) and PHIL were piss drunk. When people get really drunk it's no fun if you're the sober one because you just play babysitter. You just ask them to keep quiet because people are sleeping and you beg them to go to the bathroom to puke because they think they can hold it.

So Phil and Jane decide to go to the balcony for air. I go out too even though everyone said I didn't have to worry about them. Phil's drunk brain makes him think that he can jump to the neighbor's balcony. He lives on the third floor and he's trying to jump of his balcony. I physically grab him and take him away from the edge. He fucking tries it again so I grab him again and bring him inside where he stays. Phil and Jane get tired, Phil goes to bed and we make sure Jane gets home okay.

The next day, everyone that was drunk is apologizing and thanking the "babysitters" (Jane couldn't stop apologizing.) Everyone except for Phil. What the hell? I kinda expected him to come up to me and say "Oh hey, thanks for staying up all night and keeping an eye on me like a real friend. Oh, and thanks for SAVING MY LIFE twice in one night." I told him everything that happened last night in case forgot, he knew but he didn't want to talk about it so he just changed the subject. This was all a week ago. I also found out that Phil didn't even offer us his beer, it was his roommate's. So now his roommate is angry at us.

He always does this! He's all cool until he fucks up and instead of owning it like an adult he just pretends that nothing happened and never mentions it. I pulled this man away from leaping down three stories. Where's my thank you?

He probably really wanted to die and feels like you ruined his attempts... Keep a eye on him.

    Agent Phil Pawson! :)

Hah..anyway, your friend sounds like kind of a douche for not thanking you once. Especially since you saved his life. Of course he may still acknowledge it, just give it some time.

I understand why this would upset you, but are you going to let it prevent you from being kind to him again? Did you only do it for acknowledgment? It feels good to be acknowledged, but it isn't why people are nice and helpful to others.

He's either a total selfish arsehole or he's embarrassed about how he behaved

Maybe he feels too ashamed of what he did so he's pretending it didnt happened. Embarassment and shame might be the reasons why he didnt thank you. If your really hung up on it just ask whats his problem. Best thing to do is just find a better friend, maybe space_ghost is right.

    • I understand he'd be embarrassed. It's an embarrassing situation. But I still don't think that's a good reason to act like nothing happened. Like I said and adult would own up to it.

So, basically he's an immature idiot. Just kick him out of your life and move on. You dont need to put up with this shit. Oh and I just noticed I wrote 'happened' lets pretend thats 'happen' instead. My bad.

Fucking drunk people. A few years ago a bunch of young people were driving and the one really wasted dude wanted to go to the bar they were about to drive past, the driver said no so the kid opened the door and jumped out of the car. He smashed into the curb and died. Think people!!!!!
