Is it normal that he gets this pissed when...

Hello is it normal family. Is it normal that my fiancé gets extremely frustrated when we play chess? I know, sounds like a troll, but unfortunately it's not. We just started playing chess together the other day; first game was a stalemate, second game I won, he was frustrated, but the normal amount of competitive frustration.

We played chess tonight, like, just 5 minutes ago; I won the first game, he got upset, so he set it up for another. We couldn't even finish the second one because he got so frustrated that I saw an opportunity to capture his queen that he overlooked, and said we were done.

I go upstairs to use the restroom, come out hearing my roommate telling him he's projecting just a bit. My fiancé says he said something mean and wanted to apologize.

"He wanted to know why I was so mad so I told him you kept beating me at chess, and he said you have a strategic mind, and I said I wish you applied it to real life scenarios and paid bills on time."

I chuckled, I thought it was funny and spot on. So I joked back, "Well I wish you applied your real life scenario mind to better your chess game."

Now he's talking about sleeping on the couch! He's REALLY hurt by what I said. I tried explaining I was just joking back, I wasn't serious. He said I sounded serious. Why would I be serious about that? Sorry, mostly a rant, but is it normal to get THAT upset? I get it, his pride was hurt a little, but I thought we were all joking! Did I push it too far? Or did he get too salty? Thanks!

He's a sore loser, hopefully he doesn't react this way to real issues that come along when you're married. God forbid something good happens for you in your social or career life because if he got this choked up about chess, he'll be bitter over your success.
