Is it normal that guys seem to prefer a good body over a pretty face?

All personality aside on this one, this is just referring to the physical stuff...

When I was growing up it seemed like when a guy would say a girl was "beautiful", it was because she had a gorgeous face/hair. The body didn't matter as much, within reason of course.

It even seems like throughout history, a pretty face was the center point of a woman's beauty.

Now I see guys drooling over girls who have a face that rapes, but a body that's either just really skinny, or has big boobs, or a big ass.

I realize that everybody's idea of beauty is different- for me a pretty face is the first priority as far as physical beauty. I'm just wondering though, does it seem like guy's priorities have changed throughout the years in this aspect? Has our culture evolved to where the body is more important than an attractive face?

Not to this guy. If I can't get past her face, my eyes will never make it to the rest of her body. I've been attracted to and been with women of all different shapes/sizes/colors - within reason, as OP states (I'm not Shallow Hal). If anyone remembers the Dove Girls, I thought a couple of them were smoking hot and couldn't believe people were calling them fat. Some men out there may be drawn to women with a hatchet face who are so thin they look like they're dying from some rare disease, but not me.

That's an interesting post. I wouldn't have thought of it myself, but you're right. When I refer to someone being beautiful, I always mean their facial features. But it does seem like this is being redefined a little. It started off as people saying someone has a beautiful body, but now it seems to refer to body even without specifically saying body.

I was hoping more people would answer you because it'd be interesting to know what others thought. There's no right and wrong answer. It's just opinion.

    • Yeah, I thought it was a legitimate question. Well at least I'm not the only one who notices this.
