Is it normal that girls never approach / make the first move?

Am i the only one who thinks girls are silly? They never approach men at all yet complain that they're single or only the jerks approach them. I'm somewhat shy and would like a girl but sometimes i get too scared/ intimidated to approach them. Why cant women/girls sometimes approach instead of men doing all the work?
It would be nice if sometimes women took the first step instead of whining all the time.

Also generally, why do men have to do all the work?

I completely understand your position. I've been shy too. I've had women I was crazy about say (much later), "Why didn't you just do something about it? I liked you too and I thought I'd made it obvious. You made me so angry. I wanted us to be together."

From the individual female's point of view, she'd done enough. She didn't realise men were so dense, I didn't realise women were so subtle. Fault on both sides. It's a complete 50/50. It's neither the woman's nor the man's fault. It's pure misunderstanding because we are different.

Where I'd disagree with you is that women are silly. They're doing this stuff on a whole higher level and they expect us to notice. We're silly for not noticing. They eventually learn that we can't communicate that way. It's like discovering a race of monkeys (we kind of are) and, at that point, they stop being annoyed at us because they realise we're not doing it on purpose, and it's not meant to annoy them.

Also, look to evolution. I was watching a documentary about toque macaques tonight and I saw a few facial things that I've seen off human males. Dead serious. I saw stuff there that I've seen on an average Friday night. I saw stuff that was once used against me and which, to my eternal credit, said "What the fuck is that? You look like a monkey when you do that".

So what do you suggest i do? I approached a few girls last night when i went out. Got rejected a few times but also got accepted which was nice. It was hard though, all the girls were just stood there like lemons.

I don't know. If I had a magic answer I'd tell you. I honestly would. But I don't have one.

No, you're not alone. As Theory of a Deadman said in "Bitch came back", "The problem with girls is it's never enough, they always complain and they never shut up"
It would be a whole lot damn easier on us guys if girls made the first move. I sure wish they did.

Yeah on one hand they don't approach first but on the other if we do they give this oh-no-not-another-player trying to pick me up look. *sigh*

I notice the same thing but you still have to take the initiative. Girls like confidence and making the first move will show her just that. If a girl rejects you, you shouldn't be hard on yourself. It can range from a number of reasons as to why she is saying no. She could just not be into anyone at the time or just isn't attracted to you. You have to go first, only way you will find out.

Nonsense. What I clearly mean is that perhaps females in general don't make moves in your general direction because they just aren't that into you.
