Is it normal that fan/compressor noises put me at ease?

Low- to mid-volume fans, humidifiers, nebulizers, the fans on my computer rig, the refrigerator fan, what-have you... heck, even the diswasher, strangely enough; all of these sounds make me incredibly relaxed. I really don't have a clue why. Is it normal?

I am the same way. Any kind of white noise.
I think it is because it drowns out any other kind of noise we wouldn't be expecting (People making noise outside, house creaking.)

  • That's strange, but I've always slept better if the dishwasher or the washing machine was turned on. I think that's because if you try to fall asleep in total silence, it's a lot easier to hear (or imagine to hear) various noises that might make you uncomfortable.

Normal. I sometimes leave my fan on just for the noise when I go to bed.

Because it's rhythmic perhaps? Rhythm soothes people. The reason we rock babies to sleep is the same reason we listen to music as adults.
