    A lot of people believe that guys and girls cannot merely be friends, so because of this mentality your situation is normal.

    Do you like him that way? By the way you describe him as "buddy" it sounds like you're not really into him like that. Just because everyone thinks you guys should date doesn't mean you should just for the heck of it. I'm 100% sure this guy you call your "buddy" has the biggest crush on you.
