Is it normal that every time i try to eat fish i gag?

Ever since I can remember I have not been able to eat fish. There have been times that I spit it out but mostly it makes me gag. I think it's because the fishiness for some reason grosses me out and I can't go through with eating it. Now I think it's time that I grow up and learn how to eat fish because it's healthy but I don't know how to go about doing it. Is it normal that I gag when I try to eat fish? My brother and I are the only people I know of who can't eat fish. What should I do?

Thats not entirely true. I like shrimp and tuna but some seafood I can't eat because I gag. Even with shrimp there are times I gag and I'm really getting sick of it.

Why not try something delicately flavoured like salmon or dover sole? Or something smoked like a kipper or smoked trout.

Stop eating fish. It's not like your diet has to revolve around it.

But they've done studies on people who lived to be extremely old and they said that one of the common denominators was a heavy diet of fish among other things.

  • I can't eat anything seafood related. Even if I've never tried it before, the smell of it just makes me feel ill.

I tried a prawn once and it tasted like rancid water in my mouth, so that told me without doubt that seafood is not for me.

Normal. The smell and taste of seafood are absolutely revolting. And the aftertaste it leaves is stuff of nightmares...

A lot of people hate fish its pretty common. My best friend hates any fish and especially shellfish.
I like fish a lot less now than I did a few years ago.
Once I was feeling sick and I forced myself to eat dinner anyway(flounder) and I threw up later...I haven't had white fish since.

Well if you like tuna, stick with tuna. Mercury levels in fish make it not the best food choice so check where it comes from.

But it is a great source of nutrition. You're right to want to incorporate it into your diet. Smoked salmon is very easy to come by near me, if you like the smoked flavor this may be the way to go for you. Mixed with cream cheese it makes a great spread for crackers.

I agree with this being normal. Everyone has different taste buds. My husband and I do not buy, eat or prepare seafood. I can't stand the smell, texture or taste of anything from the water. Disgusting!

I love seafood... But it's normal to gag at stuff you don't like. I do it all the time to lots of different foods.
