Is it normal that eating makes me more hungry?

I can go hours and hours and hours without eating sometimes and not be hungry.

Lately, I'll eat a full meal, and then less than 20 minutes later I'll go digging through the fridge and cabinets looking for food because I feel really, really hungry -- even though I just ate!

I don't understand it and I really wish it would stop. Anyone have an explanation??

    This is largely due to your meal selection. If you consume primarily carbohydrates, the body very quickly metabolizes them into glucose and it causes an insulin spike in most instances and produces hunger again within a very short timeframe. This is largely the reason that Chinese food has been credited with a ten-minute satiety factor.

    You must eat a necessary compliment of proteins, which requires more time to metabolize and is the reason that high protein diets are generally more beneficial for diabetics. Blood glucose is stabilized over a longer period and hunger sensations do not appear for sometimes many hours.

    This reaction can vary between persons, so careful selection to dietary choice will render a more stable hunger cycle.

    Going for many hours without eating can feel okay, if your blood sugar is even and doesn't dip too low. But what may happen if you do not eat for a long time and then eat, is that you feel extra hungry because your body is trying to compensate by driving you to eat all the calories it is used to needing to function. Each body process depends on calories for energy. Make sure you eat regular meals, and you might find the bingeing stops.

    It depends on what you are eating. Eating a high carbohydrate and sugary diet tends to make people very hungry. You need to balance the carbs and sugars with fiber and protein.
