Is it normal that create "strange" things in my free time?

By this, I mean think up, and possibly write down. But, anyways, in my free time, I think up various idea's for monsters, demons, angels, etc. I always tend to create massive back stories, and entire universes for these things. (Wanting to be an author, I believe it should be normal that I at least write these things down, for possible story ideas.)

But that's not even why I start thinking up these creatures. I just think it's fun, for some reason. I guess it gives me a sense of fulfillment when I think of something, which no one has thought of before. (Creature wise.)

These creature ideas, always tend to be something not possible. Whether they have supernatural qualities to them, or just have aspects about them which do not fit in the animal world.

Anyways, is it normal to constantly be coming up with countless new species ideas, just out of boredom?

    I want to be an author too and if I don't do creative things, it kind of builds up inside me as tension. I completely understand what you do. Do you ever make any of it public?
