Is it normal that certain music makes me really cross and upset ??

Hiya,

I've got behavioural problems due to a disability, which I refer to as the black cloud (depression/anxiety/rage) I used to listen to a lot of heavy stuff and watch some violent stuff.

The black cloud always seemed to appear after listening to certain music – there was one song in particular, so I stopped bothering with it and re-discovered my childhood love of folk and blues post-concert.

Said problems disappeared and I felt fine –- as fine as you can feel when half of your body doesn't work. I still had the odd snap at someone but nowhere near as bad as before.

Then I put some of the other stuff on a couple of weeks later and said cloud came back worse than ever. I felt so awful I passed it onto someone else.

Do you think certain music/TV/films can cause this sort of problem, or worsen what's already there?? I never used to think it did but it clearly does in my case.

I've since immortalised said concert in a short story with a made-up song, which has been used for therapy.

If it's rap or dubstep, don't worry - it pisses everyone off.

Yes, we are made of thoughts and emotions, and everything around affects us in some way. If something gives you a bad vibe either dont pay attention to it or look at it with an observer attitude rather than feeding off it.
    Just my 2 cents.

    Hi!

I think certain music, TV shows and films definitely can increase anger, or even bring on new strains of depression.
And what's more, is that there might be a reason! Sometimes, when listening to agressive, or furious music, the body increases a hormone - testosterone. Although considered to be the male sex hormone, it's present in both men and women (but at lower levels for women). It raises anger levels due to the hormone's mechanism sending signals to the brain which increase agression.

For those who don't want to have a shedload of agressive feelings on their backs, it may be better to keep from listening to agressive music and music with a heavy beat - so maybe no drum and bass!

I love folk music, too, and blues! Have you ever heard the song 'Billyboy' by the English folk sensation Eliza Carthy? Or 'Tuxedo Junction' by Manhattan Transfer, which is more bluesy. They could be worth a try!

Wish you the best of luck!

    xx
