Is it normal that certain foods make me smell weed?

This is hard to explain. But basically, when I eat some foods, I suddenly get the smell of marijuana deep up my nostrils, as if I've just held up a bag of it to my nose. The food doesn't smell of weed, it's only when I taste the food that this happens. It's like the taste provokes the smell.
The foods it happens with are, as of now:
McDonald's breakfast sausage
The brownies in Ben and Jerry's choco fudge brownie ice cream
Ben and Jerry's core dough-ble whammy ice cream
It sometimes happens with brownies that I make myself, very rarely (they haven't been tampered with).

Is this normal? I just feel so crazy when I mention it to anyone cause they're like 'erm..'

Well, there seem to be two immediate explanations for this:

    1. If you are a smoker, the possibilities are endless - You'd be better off asking someone other than me.
    2. If you are a non-smoker, and experience other seemingly irrelevant taste-smell associations, then you may have a rare condition known as synaesthesia.

    Hope that helps!

I've smoked it once, over a year ago. But this has been happening for years before that, like random tastes give me random smells. And Synaesthesia? What's that?
      Thanks

Synaesthesia is a condition described as "a blending of the senses." A stimulus perceived in one sense will be carried on to be interpreted by a secondary sense. What results are experiences such as coloured sounds, textured numbers, even scented tastes. Typically, you might recall the associations being present as far as memory goes, and they have simply always been around. If you do have Synaesthesia, the specific association you experience (taste-smell) is highly rare, even in the synaesthetic world. The most common is grapheme-colour Synaesthesia, which is one of several colour-related types I happen to have.

There are tests available for colour-related Synaesthesia, and you can find them here: http://synesthete.org/index.php, plus a pre-test if you aren't sure whether you have Synaesthesia.

Good luck, and I'd love to hear what you find!

I signed up and filled out their questionnaires. I ticked all the boxes for what I experience and apparently that's it I guess. I don't like to self-diagnose though. But that's weird. You pretty much hit the nail on the head with your description. I also get certain strong tastes and smells without having to eat anything and if I visualise something I get the texture of it, as if I was stroking it. I like to visualise cats because the fur sensation feels really relaxing. Thanks for your help :D also I have nothing to do with colours, just letting you know incase that changes anything

If IIN had a "friend" option, I would definitely send you an invite. I love to and am always interested in hearing about these sorts of experiences. Is there anything else you'd like to say about it? :D

Haha thanks, I'd like to be your friend too :p and I'm not sure, but I'm glad it's not me going crazy. Cause whenever I'd be at work or anything I'd suddenly smell really random stuff and ask if anyone else could smell it and they'd look at me like I was a murderer. Do you think it's related to this that I can mentally eat and suppress my appetite? Like the same way with the texture thing, but it's like I'm actually eating and tasting the food. I dunno. I've never really consciously thought about any of this stuff until the weed incidents :p

Nah, normal. Every once in awhile, I'll smell something that smells like weed... Something in the air, food, random things. It's just your brain playing tricks on you. If you smelled them right next to one another, you'd realize they don't smell that much alike. So really, it's just your brain messing with you.

Are they foods that you are particularly keen to eating when you are high?

Sometimes that happens to me, but not only when I eat. I'll just catch a huge whiff of it that usually goes away in less than a minute. I'm guessing it has something to do with combined smells that give off the scent of weed.
