Is it normal that can't stop stress eating?

I've switching careers and under a lot of stress and anxiety. My father has also been remodeling the kitchen causing my eating habits to be completely out of order. The only thing that makes me feel at ease is eating something fatty and preferably salty. I know this isn't good for my weight of health, but I can't seem to stop. It's almost like an addiction.

I do this too. It's my worst habit. The only thing I can do is only stock my house with fruits and veggies, and a lot of celery and grapes. That way when I stress binge, it's not taco bell or chocolate.

You've got an eating disorder it's called "Compulsive Overeating". There are meetings all over the world for this. It is an addiction and the OA (Overeaters Anonymous)meetings are modelled on AA (Alcoholics anonymous) They do the 12 step programme. Check it out google OA meetings in your area.

    Good luck

  • Don't focus on trying to control your eating.
DO focus on trying to resolve the things that are stressing you out and also tell a doctor about how stress is affecting your life because, if you don't, you'll never be able to permanently lose weight.

That's because it is an addiction. Due to stress, you have elevated cortisol and lower dopamine. The fatty/salty foods increase the dopamine and make you feel normal again. So it is a physiological addiction. This is how people get overweight. You must deal with the stress level head-on so you no longer need food to keep your hormones & neurotransmitters level. Try deep breathing, yoga, meditation, exercise, journaling, whatever de-stresses you, do it before this becomes a way of life for you.

Why would remodeling the kitchen make u crave fatty and salty foods?? Usually when we crave salt it's our bodies way of telling us we need it. Stress can also change eating habits and if your changing carers and it's stressful that could also b a factor

And salt is horrible for you. There's plenty in natural food.
