Is it normal that caffine makes my anxiety worse?

hello everyone,

I am one of the "lucky" ones to be affected by an anxiety disorder(to be specific, OCD). It normally stays under managable levels.

but please, can anyone who is also effected by any kind of anxiety disorder answer this question-

Do your symptoms have a tendancy to get worse when you drink high-sugar, caffinated, and/or carbonated beverages? This includes juices, sodas, flavored waters, etc.

I tend to get anxiety attacks after I drink an excess amount of soda or a lot of sugary foods (desserts)... is that normal?

If you ever feel that way, jog around, exercise, put some of that pent up energy to use and clear your mind. You should try to steer clear of it as much as possible if it makes you feel uncomfortable.
Don't even think about energy drinks.

Hmmm this made me think... my mom always complains of anxiety attacks and she also always has coffee and usually eats some kind of sugary snack each day.

I don't suffer from extreme anxiety but the drinks that you talk about all contain caffiene which is a stimulant which will make your heart beat faster. A faster beating heart is associated with the fight or flight mechanism (which in turn can then be processed as an anxiety attack)

I would recommend lowering your caffiene and sugar intake, why now opt for herbal teas instead?

    Good luck :)
