Is it normal that caffaine no longer effects me?

As far back as junior high I have been heavily depending on caffeinated beverages, mostly diet soda, in order to keep my up and going since I have always had sleep problems. I could not have gotten through college without drinking a couple energy drinks during studying. After graduating I realized that I did not like being this dependant on caffeine especially since it barely had any effect on me. I quit cold turkey for a whole month hoping that I would reset my system and that when needed only one soda would suffice. Unfortunately after the caffeine fast it still has little to no effect on me unless I drink an energy drink, which I’m really trying not to do. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

  • Too much of anything and your body learns to adjust itself to it.

  • My husband is dependent on caffeine and when he tries to cut back he gets migraines. You're lucky that it doesn't affect you in any way that you would notice.

Been there, done that. It takes 36 hours to leave the system but it takes a huge sight longer for the tolerance to leave. I drink caffeine perhaps once or twice a year now and it hits me so hard that it's extremely unpleasant. Almost an allergic reaction.

Don't know about you but my comedown when I did the cold turkey thing was just horrible. I felt hungover, tired, headachey, and ill.
