Is it normal that aspartame tastes bitter to me?

Is it normal that aspartame tastes bitter to me? Its in artificial sweeteners if you havent known such as equal. I remember mistaking it for regular sugar and i downed a whole pack and started spitting that stuff out when I tasted how bitter it was. Anyone else experience this too or am I just being a nutcase again?

It's normal for me. I can't drink Diet Coke because of the aspartame. After a couple sips it just tastes bitter to me. I haven't tried many other diet sodas, but it'd probably be the same.

Aspartame is composed of Methanol, Aspartic Acid and Phenylalanine, all of which are toxic. I understand completely what mean. Aspartame has always tastes bitter to me.

Since phenylalanine is one of the twenty proteinogenic amino acids your body uses to make proteins, no, you clearly do not understand "what mean."

And you also have zero notion of elementary chemistry, either, or you would know that a chemical compound is more than the sum of its parts, else water would burn, as it's "made up" of two flammable gases, hydrogen and oxygen.

Aspartame is vile. Plus, it's very toxic if you eat or drink enough of it.

Totally normal. I remember seeing a doco on tv about artificial additives, and it was something about aspartame attaches to the sweet AND bitter taste receptors on the tongue....where sugar only attaches to the sweet.

    I think it's normal.

Also, google "the dangers of aspartame". Might not be your cup of tea to obsess over what you eat, but it's worth a shot.

Aspartame has been the most extensively tested artificial sweetener in history just because of the baseless rumour that it's carcinogenic. There's no evidence suggesting it's carcinogenic, no proof, no compelling reason to assume it's unhealthy to consume in place of sugar.

It's just a popular scare story people swallow without considering the validity of the source... Just like that swimming straight after eating is dangerous. It's a myth. And yes I've Googled it plenty.

It doesn't taste sweet in the same way sucrose does. It's passable in foods but if you eat it raw like sugar, you'll definitely notice that it has some bitterness about it.

My dad loathes artificial sweeteners for that reason. So you're normal.
