I think more guys do this than will admit it. I love doing it but it doesn't seem socially acceptable.

I get painting finger nails, since we actually see those every day, but nobody really wanna see your feet even in their natural state. They just look downright weird with black or purple toe nails.
But hey, it's not a crime, if you like it then do you.

Yes, but normally on fingernails. This isn't gay. However, toenails is different story. If you like going on a date with a woman. You may want to go with fingernails, unless your girlfriend doesn't mind it. If she doesn't mind it. You can do it.
