Is it normal that an 18-year-old's favorite movie is a cartoon?

I'm an eighteen-old-girl, and my favorite movie is Spirited Away. It's just so amazing and beautiful and creative...

It's pretty weird, though, but once you get past that and pay attention to the details and the story, you can see how awesome it is.

Also, in my defense, it won an Oscar and other awards.

(By the way, I'm not one of those people who's into anime. Spirited Away is a cartoon made in Japan, but it's nothing like anime. The characters don't all have enormous eyes and they don't annoyingly shout every line.)

(Note- For those of you who are making rude comments about how I just haven't seen many great, classic movies, I have seen plenty. I just have different taste than you. Don't be so snobby.)

That's a good one. I don't like anime either but a good movie will transend its genre. And Hayao Miyazaki is an amazing director.

Are you kidding? It doesn't matter if a movie is an animation or live action. What matters is the story, the message, the feelings it brings to you.
Also, you are not talking about just any average cartoon. Miyazaki is one of the greatest directors of our time. You must find as many of his movies as you can and watch them all! They are full of meaning. You'll surely love them. :)
Princess Mononoke is one of his best.

Of course, that movie is wondrous. Not my favorite one, as I saw more than 1500 movies, but I'm still 23. For one that hasn't seen that many great ones it can easily become a favorite, though it's all too relative. It's also irrelevant that it's an animated movie.

    Don't think I've seen that. I watch a lot of cartoon movies. I'm 22.

I'm now 42, and I still enjoy watching THE TRANSFORMERS - THE MOVIE (1986) just like when I was a kid around that time. (NOTE: THIS MOVIE THAT I AM TALKING ABOUT WAS AN ANIMATED FLICK DEALING WITH THE FIRST GENERATION OF TRANSFORMERS - NOT THE ALLSPARK GENERATION OF TRANSFORMERS THAT WE HAVE NOW!) You might find some of it at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TechMechObject if you want to come on over and join us!

it's also my favorite movie. just because it's a cartoon doesn't mean it's not deserving of appreciation by more than just small children. it was intended for a young audience, but you're about my age and that movie came out when we were 3 and 4. so it's natural to still love a movie you grew up with.

Movies are good because they're good, not because they're live action or animated. Toy Story > Marmaduke any day.

It's normal , I love cartoon and kids movies . It's a lot more common in females for whatever reason , probably the machismo trait in males but I find it normal .
