My 11 year old daughter has recently been listening to 'screamo' bands like Bring Me The Horizon and Suicide Silence and then there's the rock music example Black Veil Brides and then there's other stuff like Pierce The Veil and Sleeping With Sirens. I am really worried because the lyrics are fine it's just the actual music itself.
A lot of people start listening to "non-mainstream" music at around that age. Those bands are quite popular with kids of around that age (and older) because they have a fairly accessible sound, especially Black Veil Brides and Pierce the Veil (these sort of bands really like veils, don't they? :P), and they have a very trendy image. As kids grow up and start to develop emotionally it's natural for them to want to explore more "dark" emotions because it's new to them, and music is a safe and healthy way to do that. I think it's normal, anyway.
This is a stupid question. Since when is it bad to like rock music? My dad use to play his old rock CDs and me and my siblings liked it. Its normal to like music. Now if the music is something like "BOTDF" or "MSI" well yeah the content is something you should be concerned about. Those are not even in the rock genera though. YES ITS NORMAL!
I would think lyrics would be more of a concern than the music itself. I don't see why it wouldn't be normal. When I was that age I started listening to death metal and black metal. Now I play in a metal band.

Man, when I was 6 or seven, I was listening to AC/DC, KISS, and Metallica.
I was different in school, jamming to Judas priest and Ozzy Ozzbourne when everyone else was listening to Big and rich and Reba mc entyre, or whatever modern crap they call music. (Sojya boy, *shudders*)

Shes 11. too young for a song titled FUCK, and many if the other disgusting songs. I am one of the most open minded parents you will find....but this music is evil.
Let her as for this day and age it is considered the norm. I personally hate it because I don't consider it to be real music.
Now I feel old. BMTH was awesome on the american dream tour with let live and issues. They're losing they're edge however. Look at their new song. Drown. U probably won't have a problem with her listening to it because olli has gone soft. And fuck the black veil brides. I'd worry more about them than BMTh. They are all about satan and shit. Not even kidding. And I'm pretty sure one of the members had sexual assault allegations againsthim. What she listens to is less important that how she acts. Just keep her from going to shows till she's in high school.shell be fine.
You guys are stupid on about watch out for your child cutting, don't be silly. Nothing wrong with the music, if you read the lyrics they are so inspiring, and well the instruments just make it even better.

Ugh... Not my cup of tea there. She might be normal, but I can't say yes.
