Is it normal that after i stopped caring about fashion, i'm happier?

I used to be a fashionista. Or I was TRYING to be. I read fashion magazines RELIGIOUSLY and view pictures of pretty people. No matter I liked the look or not, I will always adopt it to become fashionable.
About half a year ago I stopped following fashion. I guess I just got tired of it. Strangely, I began to feel better about myself. I'm no longer insecure about my looks and feeling the need to compete with others. However, I grow to hate fashion now. Though I won't go as far as not to shop for clothes and wear sweat shirts all the time ( I put on makeup and a dress once in a while, for special occasions) , but when someone says women are supposed to love fashion, or try to sell me ideas to be stylish, I just wanna punch that person in the face.

Fantastic. Because you stopped looking at girls that had been airbrushed to look 'perfect' you most likely began to see natural beauty as real beauty. Lots of girls say (and men) that looking at magazines makes them feel bad because they feel they arn't upto the standards of the people in them. But really glad your happier, i think one of the key words in the story was 'TRYING'.

I'm the same way; I HATE fashion, but mostly hate the people who try to dictate what is 'in', and 'what not to wear'. These people have no right to tell what others can and can't (or should and should not) wear. Furthermore it sparks the religiously fashion-conscious to point out your 'flaws' because you are not wearing what is in, or are wearing what is out. It's frustrating. High School NEVER ENDS

Fashion is a business built around making you feel insecure, both about your appearance and your clothing, so they can sell you something. Of course youre going to feel better not being caught up in something designed to subtly degrade your self esteem!

It's normal because it probably feels less stressful, and that you aren't competing constantly, because following the trends can make you feel like you're competing. Good for you! Most of the "in" things, aren't that great anyway. Be your own person.
