Is it normal that after 5 months I haven't seen his apartment, even though he's seen mine, and when I asked to, he introduced me to his mother instead?
5 months of what? 5 months of passing by this stranger on the street? 5 months of working with him? Maybe he doesn't want to show you his apartment because you're some creepy stranger peeking at him over hedges and leaving dead animals at his front door.
Have you asked? Hell i dont want anyone to see how i live. Its a mess and probably a gallery for what a loser lives like.

Oh!! I just thought of something else! Maybe he hasn't gotten over his ex yet, and he's one of those kinda guys who still has pictures framed of their old lover all over his apartment. And he doesn't want you to see that because then he'd probably have to explain himself. You know, why its been three years and he still has her all over his apartment.
I doubt he's married coz I can't see any mother going along with him having a girlfriend. Perhaps he lives too far away, but I just think he doesn't think the place he's in is good enough for you. Either it's a mess or just a dump. Just ask him generally whether or not he likes his apartment as you're thinking of moving, etc. anything in general, without inviting yourself and making him defensive.
I agree with Angel_in_a_glass_dress, he either doesn't trust you enough yet, or just doesn't feel comfortable showing you b/c maybe he saw your apartment first, and thought it was gorgeous compared to his, and now he's embarrassed. Or maybe he feels like if he shows you his apartment, it will give you the wrong idea and speed up the relationship that he wants to take slow.
!! FOLLOW HIM !! find out as much as you can about him by asking around. Things you should look out for if hes already married...If he wont show you where he lives, wont give you his home phone number. Theres a white line on the fourth finger of left hand where his wedding ring usually is, He wont take you to places where he is known, Theres a part of town he avoids, If he has a credit card but wont use it at restaurants, motels,etc. Can not be with you on holidays or weekends. Try to get close with his mother and then get answers from her if he wont tell you.
Are you sure he doesn't live with his mum? You asked to see his place and then he takes you to his mums. Or he might be embarassed about where he lives.
Stop guessing and speculating and ask him point blank, "Harold, we've been dating for five months; why haven't you shown me your apartment yet?"
maybe he's not sure weather you will like his apartment or not. maybe he's worried about giving the wrong impression.

if youve been dating him for 5 months, id wonder what hes hiding, maybe a gf? wife? kids??!? on the other hand, he just might be embarassed to show you.. who knows.
He lives with him mom maybe? Or maybe he is a slob... I would suprize him at his appartment - bring food :)
he probably doesn't think you'll care for his living space weather it be , roomates, sloppy or unclean, or ultimately he doesn't really have one
also i hope you didn't meet him on the internet if you did run he probably doesn't want any witnesses
