Is it normal that a nightmare made me physically ill?

Is it normal that I had a nightmare that made me physically ill when I awoke and really depressed? I had trauma at a young age (and have a few problems because of it) but never have I dreamt (or nightmared) of reliving this trauma. I did not want to get out of bed and I vomited the whole day because of this nightmare. Is this normal?

from my experience, it's normal. when i have nightmares where i am physically harmed which causes me to instantly wake up, i will sometimes still feel the pain. one time i had an anxiety attack in a dream, which i have never had in real life, but the anxiety in the dream was so much i forced myself to wake up, yet i still had severe anxiety for a good hour after waking up, for no reason since i knew everything was perfectly fine.

I have a friend who dreams that she is a zombie eating people and it makes her super nauseous, I know it's not really the same thing but it makes me think that having such a strong response to a dream is normal.

That's how your nightmare or flashbacks from your trauma affected you pshysically.

I've never heard of anyone having such a strong response to a nightmare, but you say you went through reliving a traumatic event in this dream. It could be a sign that you're ready to get this out of your system (almost literally in terms of your disgust) and come to terms with the past at last. They say it's always darkest before the dawn. So hopefully you're over the hump now.
