It sounds like you've been on a date with someone who used to be an acquaintance of mine. That is exactly the kind of thing he'd do. It's creepy but, in reality, he just doesn't have the self-awareness to know it's creepy.

I've had issues with people being a bit insistent about their place in my life (to put it nicely) and the more you ignore them, the more they fight for that place. The only thing that has ever stunned them into awareness is complete, blunt honesty. Things like "I don't like you" or "You're scaring me" or "I don't want to know you" or "Please don't contact me again" sound rude but sometimes it's the only way.

Radar has it right. Six months is a LONG time. Be direct and tell him you will go to the police if this doesn't stop. Then follow through if necessary.

Make it very clear you are not interested and if he persists, take your phone to the police and show them his texts and calls. Ask them to call him and make him aware that they have noted his stalking behaviour!!

"Canceling our plans"? You sound like one of those people who will complain about how you feel to everyone in the world except the one person you should, as numerous people suggest, frankly confront.

Just nicely tell him that he is bothering you too often. You said you are avoiding him which is bad to do because you need to be very clear that he is bothering you.
Some people can not take a hint and you need to be very clear and literal with them.
If this doesn't work and he continues to disrespect your boundries then it is time for a restraining order.

Um yes he could be just a socially weird dude, or he could be an obsessed rapist. I would tell him to stop contacting you or you will be filling out a police report. Then do it if he doesn't listen.
