Is it normal that a divorcing husband asks for the wedding china?

Just curious and needing a cross-fix here, so this site seems a good place to get it. Is it normal in divorce for the husband to insist on getting the wedding china? I'm particularly interested in hearing from you divorced guys. I mean, would this even occur to you??

Are you divorcing because he's come out of the closet?

  • Maybe it's for the other woman. Or maybe it's worth a lot of money.

Other woman is a well-established mnedical professional. Nothing special or particularly valuable about the china. It's'just normal "nice" china -- i.e., better tha what you get at Ikea.

Why don't you come to an agreement by splitting the amount if china in half. You get one amount and he gets the other.

Has he ever elaborated exactly why he wants it? Did one of his relatives buy it for the wedding? Is it worth a lot of money?

If it was a gift from his side of the family..he considers it his..if not, it's probably a new gift for his new lucky lady.

I'm going to assume it was yours or the both of yours (not initially his). It is rather a strange request, the fact you didn't mention other things makes it seem like this was his priority. Perhaps he's been told that it's often a very valuable asset (they can go for hundreds or thousands), or perhaps a family member of his has requested that he fight for it.
He could also just like it (did you use it often?) and want to keep it. It's hardly a gay trait--a rather stupid assumption. My guy loves hosting dinner parties, it's a chance to show of, which is the base trait of masculinity.

Talk about it if you can, fight for it if you want, or give it up and take something equally valuable. I wouldn't think into it too much, there could be little reason to his request.

    Needs more details.

Did it come from his family? Was it passed down to him?

Nope. We picked out the pattern together, but the vast bulk of it was given to us by my friends (you know, going to the store where we were registered and buying something on the list).

If it came from mutual friends then that sounds neutral, unless it came from his friends...

However the next question is... how much does the china matter?

Is it something you really loved, or are you upset only because he asked for the whole set?

Not sure why he would want it. Usually the women ends up with that sort of stuff.

    Why should you have it?

I never said I should. My question, however, is IIN for the husdband to ASK for it in the divorce -- as in, do enough men do this to make it "normal" behaviour, or is it rather more of an outlier?
