Is it normal that a bug appears on my carpet every night at midnight?

Okay, you probably came here because it's a really strange question. I should explain. So, some nights I like to come down to my basement (where I keep my laptop) and sit on my couch to play video games (normally until like 3:00 AM or something). The strange thing is, every night at EXACTLY midnight, there's a strange bug that appears on my carpet and starts crawling around. It's long, brown, skinny, and scaly, sorta like a centipede, but not quite like one. The only thing that kills it is dissecting it in half. I've tried many other things. Smashing it, Crushing it, but nothing seems to work except cutting it. I find this really strange and I wanna know what you guys have to say about it. Thanks for replying in advance.
