I am in a rock band and I can listen to the amps and drum set with no problems, but within seconds, the sound of my 2 month old niece crying gives me an excruciating headache, puts me in a bad mood, and gives me anxiety.
Is it normal that I can play the drum set without irritation, but a baby's cry brings extreme pain to my ears?
Humans are programmed to be irritated and distressed by the sound of a baby crying. It's meant to make sure that the adults attend to the needs of the baby to make them shut up. Unfortunately, not everyone responds positively...
Yes, it's an annoying noise. This baby is not your responsibility, so you have the luxury of being able to walk away without having to be responsible for her. What's really horrid is when you're the one that has to make the noise stop, and IT DOESN'T.
The mother's brain is particularly hard-wired to recognise that cry. It's like needles penetrating a mother's brain.

Yes, it's normal. Also, I'm not trying to say anything negative about your reaction. I do get what you're saying, and if I seemed a bit disregarding of your feelings, I didn't mean it that way.
I fucking hate babies crying and screaming. so annoying - especially when their parents don't do shit about it.
Babies screaming makes my skin crawl and i get a headache fast like u, then my mom calms it down by talking all annoying to it like "aww suga waga buga suga waga buga! is ma wittle suga upsetty-wetty" THAT JUST SETS ME OFF THE BABY TALK OH MY GOD SO FUKING ANNOYING!!!!!!
