Is it normal that a 13yr old kisses her grandpa on the mouth

we were at a family gathering and my 13year old niece bent over her grandpa and made a "kissy face" at him and then he puckered up and kissed her on the lips. i think any kissing on the lips is very inappropriate unless you're dating/married. definitely not for grandparents and teenage granddaughters. what do you think?

I think it's fine. I kiss my kids on the lips and my parents did the same. It all depends on the family I guess. Just a quick peck is fine.

it was a full on lip lock kiss, like with one lip on top of the other person's. otherwise i wouldn't have asked the question.

Wtf. People are so fucking weird these days. I kissed my parents and family on the lips. It's innocent till you're old enough to not want to do it

  • I understand how you'd feel that that could be innapropriate. It IS kind of different and not a whole lot of families do it but I did it with my parents for a large part of my childhood. I think it's ok and just a personal opinion wether it's 'ok' or not. Don't worry about it.

Some years ago my brother in law kissed my stepdaughter on the lips ... she was maybe 18 ... it wasn't exactly lip locking, but it was kind of lingering. I wouldn't have called it a peck. At the time, I was completely shocked. Since this was my wife's family, I didn't say anything, but gut reaction was THIS IS NOT NORMAL. Even if they had been kissing that way since she was a little girl.

Had it been a lip lock, I may even have discussed it with my wife or stepdaughter immediately.

A couple of years after, the topic came up in a family discussion without my brother in law or step daughter present at the time. Without naming names, my sister in law was talking about how weird it was that her husband kissed his nieces and any younger female relatives on the lips and that it was kind of embarrassing.

My wife mentioned that she knows that he does that to his daughter, but doesn't say anything and that it has stopped now anyway.

Bottom line is, there is no way your lip locking is normal.

I'm not trying to pass judgement, but comparing your situation to mine, I would have to say that if I think what happened to my stepdaughter is unusual, what happened to your niece is definitely way off normal.

As far as what to do about it ... perhaps a little word to your sister in law in private, nothing confrontational. Just make her aware that you think that it's maybe something that her daughter doesn't realize she's doing, but perhaps she should offer her cheek rather than her lips ?

My standards are: It's okay until you're at the age of consent. I see where you're coming from though, and even I think it's kind of weird for a full lock kiss between family members (other than husband/wife, wife/wife, husband/husband)

    ... 1) she's not teenage.
    2) it was playful. Duh
    3) people can kiss whoever/whenever they like. It's like touching fingers. If you're think it's only for exclusive couples, sucks to be you.

i forgot to mention, it was a full-on, lip locking kiss. not a peck. if it were a little peck, i wouldn't have asked if it was normal.

Oh yeah? So if any of us want to be friendly towards the elderly we should start kissing them on the lips? ;)

What's so wrong about kissing your family members on the lips? It's more awesome after they had oral sex with their partner too! Nah I'm just kidding, but think about it...where have their lips been? You're better off just kissing their cheek..

This is such a controversial topic, because people like you and I believe this is inappropriate and is close to being considered "incestuous". Then the people that are grown up frenching each others family members think it's a sign of affection. Ok yeah I get that, but you really want to say your mom/dad are your first kiss? Don't tell me "oh dat dont count", yea it pretty much does a lip kiss...is well a damn lip kiss.

This is just my opinion, disagree if you want and get all pissy because I'm making it sound wrong/ soundin "ignorant". I am just calling it how I see it.

God! thankyou for saying that! I can't believe the attacks I got for asking such a question, and, as i have commented repeatedly, it was NOT a peck, it was a full on, lip locking kiss

I'm not a "lip kisser", I am a "cheek kisser". I hug hello, and kiss the person on the cheek. My standard is, Worthy of a hug, worthy of a kiss. I shake hands when meeting new people. I have friends and family that are "lip kissers". It's not a big deal.

A peck on the lips only means I love you, it has nothing to do with sexual contact with that person.
