Is it normal summertime* (jazz singers)

Out of these four wonderful lovely ladies, which do you think is the best singer/artist?

I love all of them! I fell in love with each at a time, listened obsessively to everything they sang/played, but now one in particular is the object of my musical affection. How about you?

* Summertime, the title of this story, is a song that was recorded by all four of them.

Nina Simone 5
Dinah Washington 0
Billie Holiday 4
Ella Fitzgerald 7

Me too. This is infinitely better than things like the recent "IS it normal they still pushing Miley too chidren" or the classic "IIN I slept with my sister". Keep it up!

Wow, this is actually pretty tough. Nina Simone is my spirit animal, but for this particular song I think I'll have to go with Lady Day.

Edit: Fuck, now I'm second guessing it. Nina's version is so eclectic and poignant in such a unique manner, as always.

Edit 2: Hadn't heard Dinah Washington's version until just now. This makes it even more difficult. I'm a god damn audiophile.

It's nice to see you excited about something. I'm surprised you don't talk about music more.

My notifications seem to be faulty. I happened to see this upon returning to this poll, but I never got a notification for it.

Anyway, I'm always excited. I have a constant erection as I browse IIN.

Happens to me too (the notification thing, not the constant erection; I was born without a penis).

Ah yes, a terrible birth defect known as "being female". I think my mom had that.

Out of that list: Ella Fitzgerald. Although some of my favorites are Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darrin and the Ink Spots :)

All of these women are amazing. It's hard to label one as my favorite because I feel it makes the others less special. However I have listened to Nina Simone the most. There is an album where she covers many well known songs. She has a way of taking a song, and making it her own.

Chosing between Nina Simone and Billie Holiday was tough. Glad I gave my vote to Nina beacuse she seems to be less popular here!

Voted for Ella Fitzgerald but I suggest Jackie DeShannon too.

I don't know about best (I like them all) but the first time I heard Billie Holiday sing Strange Fruit, I temporarily forgot who I was.
