Is it normal: snobby hobos?

What right does a hobo have to be a snob? You give them food and they turn their nose up at it because it's not organic. You give them a Budweiser and they complain that it's not a fucking local craft pumpkin spice motherfucking swanky lager. Give them a cigarette and they whine that it's a menthol (or non-menthol). It's rude to scoff at any gift but I feel it's even worse when bums do it.

is it normal to find snobby bums very irritating?

As someone who also feels they owe the homeless population some sort of help, I'd be incredibly hurt if one of them ever stuck their nose up at my help. Thats why

It's actually pretty normal. I can recall a few instances when a hobo asked me for money for food. I would go inside the store and buy them something and they would either threaten to punch me or they'd be all "I don't want that shit." Some even attacking and kicking my car when I didn't have anything to give or didn't give them enough money.

If I tried to help anyone and they complained it would piss me off too. I'd snatch it back and tell them to go buy their own then.

Hey hobos have the right to choose what they want or not too! Do you think that just because they're broke and living on the street and sometimes don't shower for months that they have no dignity anymore?!?

    • Sure. But as I said, we all pretty much agree that it us rude to scoff at any gift, right? I'm just saying it comes across as extra rude if you are begging for said gift and you act all pretentious. Shut up and take it and if you don't like it, at least be discrete.

Look at how dumb that comment was overall. Someone who is broke, living on the street without the means and probably the motivation to practice normal basic hygiene actually expecting respect?! This is the ridiculousness of the times we live in. People having pride for accomplishing absolutely NOTHING. While expecting you to not just help them but to freely give them something you may not even treat yourself to.

"Hey I'm a total scumbag with nothing to my name and no accomplishments but don't you dare judge me....can I have some money, and uh not just loose change, because than I have to stand here all day asking for money"

I'd say that original comment was just a troll, but they sounded serious and I actually know someone in real life who approaches people and life in general as if it's all just owed to them for the simple fact that they "need" it.

No concept of earning what you want in life.

We all are born and die. Do we take these so called "accomplishments" with us when we die?? No, you crumble to dust. Because everyone is human regardless of what they have done in life.

So WHAT if someone doesn't wanna shower?!? It's disgusting but who are you to try and dictate people's lives?!?

You sound so judgmental and stuck up. You aren't better than anyone else. Get over yourself

You don't know what someone out in the streets has been through. Anyone could end up there with the right set of not-so-great circumstances.

You sound like a shitty human being to tell ya the truth

And some humans CHOOSE to do something productive every day and other humans CHOOSE to do nothing. Those that CHOOSE to do nothing are not worth considering.

Yes, I am judgmental. Just as you are. Just as everyone is. You judged me for being judgmental.

Someone who doesn't shower is gross and disgusting and I don't want to be around them.

I'm not actually a shitty person. I just think people should be accountable and responsible for themselves. Those that make the choice to not be aren't really worth my consideration. We aren't all special and unique snowflakes. We're just dust as you said.

Nobody chooses to be homeless because its easier than getting a job. It's a bad situation that's really hard to get out of if you don't have any family to help you, who is going to give you a job to buy a home when you live on the street? And what benefit would a job show this person if it doesn't pay for their living expenses?

              Comment Hidden ( show )
      • NotAgain..

True. I agree that it's wrong to act unappreciative with gifts people wish to give you.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the story but I still have doubts they were even begging for said gift. What if maybe you just assumed that because they're in the street they're automatically begging. You just said it yourself that's not what they even wanted.

Did it say in a sign, I want food or did it say I want organic food? I'd imagine they were begging for the specific one they wanted. If they weren't then you're right that is ruuude!

        • They asked for food and some ask to bum a smoke. They didn't specify, they just complained after. Not every single one, just some do. Cigarettes are expensive and it's asking a lot to give one away so it's aggrivating if they say awww it's a menthol as if I took a dump on their face.

What you seem to be describing is called an "oogle." Basically it's a hipster who decides to pretend to be homeless because they're too independent of society to get a job, but too much of a pussy to actually live on the street.

I don't mind giving a street person money. If they tell me it's for wine. I give them a cig if they ask. If it's a pack with only 4-5 left I give that to them. I carry 2 extra packs to be safe. I've never heard one complain. I'm tired of the story. I'm passing through town and need gas money/ They get nothing.

Well I'll be dam'ed it's the Gypsysailor. I wondered what happened to you.

As usual you are wrong again. Not all poor people are "hobos", as you refer to them by using the term impecunious Americans. A hobo is a migratory worker or a vagabond, especially one who is impoverished. The term originated in the western—probably northwestern United States around 1890. Unlike a "tramp", who works only when forced to, and a "bum", who does not work at all, a "hobo" is a traveling worker. So you should really be asking is, is it normal for a bum to be snobby not a hobo.

        • You'd have to be pretty unobservant to think I am the sailor.

The rest of your response makes no sense either, unsurprisingly.

          1. Impecunious-Americans was a joke, a lá PC culture.

          2. Thanks for copy/pasting the wikipedia entry for "hobo" but it's irrelevant as the word usage has evolved. Most people don't care nor distinguish hobos from bums at all, let alone in casual conversation.

          3. The majority I encounter are more hobo-like anyway if you really want to be pedantic. My area is not anyplace where "bums" can set up but people who are passing through are tolerated to a point. Now, I don't know if they are bums playing hobo for the day or if they are "real hobos" and I don't give the fucks to make the distinction. It's pointless. Everyone got the gist of it except you.

You ARE the sailor. I knew it. Pedantic was his favorite word. He used it all of the time. And the part about cutting and pasting was also one of his lame attempts at ridicule. Cutting and pasting saves me from having to type something that is already written. I guess you got so beat up by everyone, all of the time, that you just couldn't take it any more and ran away. So what name are you using now Popeye?

            • Erudite. Erudite was his favorite word.

Also, he does not recognize wikipedia as a valid source. He would've attacked you for using wiki first and foremost.

He got his account deleted and since then has had at least 10-15 new accounts that I have spotted. He's simple to find. The clues lie more in his spelling and grammar among a couple others. I could give you a list of his usernames but you fancy yourself such a good detective so go ahead and find him yourself. I assure you I am not him, guess again. If you guess my username correctly I will say so and prove it.

    • Sadly, it's not a troll. It started with bums complaining if you only gave them .35¢ and they felt slighted because they deserve $1 at least. Now you can give them the literal shirt off your back and they will bitch about the slave labor that made it and how it has too much rayon in it anyway.

I'm sorry you didn't receive the response you felt you deserved but I thought the whole point in giving gift to those in need is to possibly help some one else. Not so that everyone can look and see how good you are for helping the lowly hobo, and have him worship the ground you walk on. I know that's and extreme example but yours was extreme too. Also a lot of homeless struggle with mental illnesses and may not know how to react in a proper way. Just something to think about
