Is it normal scarfs make me feel like an a**hole?

Hi, I'm male and in my early 20's

My mother bought me a striped scarf today, wich I thought was very nice. However I just can't wear it because it makes me feel like a rich snob, a pretentious artist or a priggish hipster. Is this normal? Can you wear scarfs?

I always used to wrap scarves around my face and pretend I was Soul Reaver.

I don't wear scarves as a fashion statement. I wear them because I get cold. But as a girl I think we can get away with it easier. My husband wears scarves when it's cold and no one would confuse him with a hipster or snob. Maybe an ass, but that wouldn't be a result of the scarf. Unless he was hitting you with it.

I don't wear scarves because I get a strange urge to strangle a guy I don't like with it, and I don't need to go to jail for murder.

I like to wear scarves . But It's not a scarf that's makes you, it's your personality.

I guess it really depends on what color it is and style, as this contributes to how "snobbish" it is. I mean, if it's ordinary black, white, yellow ect then I doubt you would feel the same, as it is casual. And on the other hand if u were wearing a leopard print with tassels at the end then perhaps you would feel out of ya comfort zone lol :P

I love in Canada so i think you should only wear a scarf in winter, or in your case wear it when your moms over to make her feel like she got you a worthwhile gift

    • One would think in Canada it's always cold enough to wear a scarf

if you like the scarf you should wear it because it seriously keeps you warm when its like 20 degrees and below (at least for me)

Actually i wear a women's scarf, super wide and as tall as i am 5,10. Sure it might look gay but it does look pretty cool and keeps my ass warm.

They're kind of douchey on guys. Depends what you wear it with.

Sometimes, I find myself worrying about the same thing. Look at this way: Screw the hipsters. Don't let them ruin something for you. I rarely if ever wear a scarf. I have two from either Scotland or Ireland and I am yet to wear them. Even in freezing cold temperatures I have forgotten about their existence. In the past when I did wear them, once wrapped they wouldn't always look the way I wanted them too. By that, I mean that the ends were in awkward positions; one would be stiff as a log and the other would be either too short or too long and extremely floppy. When it comes to winter weather, all I need is a beanie and a coat. Mittens are optional.

I've never owned a scarf but I've wanted one for a long time. I just never get around to buying one.

I don't think guys can wear scarves though, unless you're an olde tymey aviator or driving a 1920's Rolls Royce convertible.

Ha! I think my dad always wanted to be a pilot. He use to always wear a leather bomber jacket with a white silk scarf.

Scarfs have always been unnecessary to me. Necks are hardly the most difficult part of the body to keep warm - I just do my coat up to the top :P If someone gave me one I'd probably wear it sometimes, and I might look silly sometimes but that doesn't really bother me :P
