Is it normal royal wedding obsession?

I'm a Brit living in Canada, and everywhere I look it's all about the Royal wedding.
Every US and Canadian channel is covering it (why not leave it to BBC??), many are doing wedding shows 'influenced by it', Slice has some show hosts doing commentary for it (?!), and I think it's MTV is doing a movie of their early relationship. Winners was selling Will&Kate throw pillows!

For two countries that have been trying to disassociate themselves from the Crown, criticise England for having the royal family (when you're the ones who come to see them). If you're no longer British-influenced, why is your every move these past few months been in the shadow of the Royal wedding?

    It is so irritating and pathetic how anyone can care about it. Its just irritating the amount its going on when far more greater and bigger news is happening.

    I'm an American with a mild case of Anglophilia and even I have to admit that the US's obsession with Will & Kate's wedding is pretty extreme. To be honest it kind of embarrasses me when my country becomes obsessed over aspects of other people's countries, because I know we probably come off as awkward weirdos for it.

    Lol, must have been Have I Got News For You. But yeah this whole wedding business is pretty damn boring - I've made sure I'm working that day (some national day off!) so I can avoid it.

      lol, I love that. I've just seen it on a satire show on TV about 30 minutes ago. I want them to really do that.

    I'm trying my best to avoid it. I actually am in England and our TV has gone wedding mad. Anything they can regurgitate that is slightly wedding based (like weddings from soap operas twenty years ago).

    I'm guessing I should probably watch it, though. After all, they're liable to be the future King and Queen.

    The media has nothing else of substance to report, so it is they who are obsessed.

    And the U.S. adores British (and any other) royalty.

    i like the monarchies and the grand ceremony. i hope will and kates wedding has all the pomp. i especially love the glittering jewells
