Is it normal reading?

Is it normal that my son can't read or write? I've homeschooled him since he was born (I have multiple degrees in education and used to work as a state college professor so I'm more than qualified to do this). However, I never taught him to read or write and he never really asked to learn so he doesn't know how. He's 17. Is this something to be worried about? He doesn't have a learning disability; he's just never had to read himself since I've always been there to read textbooks, etc. out loud to him.

I'm starting to sympathise with Germany for banning homeschooling...

Congrats you've practically ruined your kids existence. How you believe you are" more then qualified to do this" is beyond me. You might have the diplomas but you lack common sense. How the hell did you fail to teach your son the most basic of education skills? You feel it necessary to ask us if this is normal? OF COURSE IT ISN'T! the fact you ask this proves you have no common sense! I sincerely hope your a troll.

You really set him up for a tough journey into college ( if he can get accepted) and life. Enroll him in a reading program ASAP.

What isn't that illegal! Did you like take the tests for him or something because I know that there are tests you have to pass and send off to where ever they need to be sent off to to prove you are learning what you need to know in order to be in socioty.

You're right. I don't understand how he can have a normal life, let alone a "social-life"! What are you thinking by just now questioning if this is normal or not? Of course it isn't. Its very sad for the both of you. You have disabled him. Please get him in the right setting before this gets worse even though I'm not sure it can!

are you kidding? what's not normal is that you are questioning it NOW. reading a text book to a child is not teaching.

when you were a college professor, did you wait until your students asked you to teach them?

better get him a tutor. obviously you aren't as qualified as you think.

All those facts you read him will do him no good if he cannot read or write.
Also, I hope he has an active social life. I don't want to pre-judge because you didn't actually mention this but I'm seeing warning signs of a very protective parent and a very sheltered teenager. That will all do him more harm than good.
