Is it normal plaid means gay on women?

According to the typical stereotype(not saying its true) a lesbian has short hair, some type of plaid shirt and blue jeans. Now I don't understand this when plaid is used in many outfits. Including schoolgirl skirts. Which seems to be very popular. So why is a plaid shirt a stereotype of a gay women? When really you could put plaid on practically anything and it will look alright.

The whole lesbians wearing plaid thing is mostly just a stereotype. I don't know any lesbians in real life who wear it, but the ones I've seen online mostly make jokes about it like, "Look I'm wearing plaid, everyone's gonna know I'm a lesbian now, lol".

I've heard that it might be some sort of stereotype thing but I've not met a lesbian who wears plaid yet.

It's not the plaid it's the flannel which usually tends to be plaid. The look was also very popular in the 90's with something called "Grunge" which was primarily a music genre but also an anti-fashion sort of style. Both men and women of the pothead persuasion can be seen wearing a plaid flannel shirts to this day. And let's not forget lumberjacks and rustic, earthy people living in or near the woods.

So you are emphatically stating that all Scottish women who wear their clan plaids are lesbians?
Hum, I hadn't really given that one too much thought.

Same for gay man, acting all girly and shit like dude because you like other dudes don't meen you gotta act like a girl. And they always overreact with the girly thing. Shaking there asses like motherfucker ma girlfriend don't even shake it like that, damn man!

I don't know a single manly lesbian and not a single girly gay guy. I mean, absolutely nothing wrong with girly guys (can be cute imo), but it's just a stereotype.

      • Some gay men are feminine. I know a lot of them. They talk with the attitude of a catty schoolgirl.

I know two quite feminine guys and they are both straight. Yes, there might be some feminine gay men, but this is not linked directly to their sexual orientation. According to statistics, gay men are more often following rather "typical male" behaviours than straight men.

          • I never said it was. However feminine gay men is in fact a thing. So to say they do not exists at all is incorrect. Since most of the gay men I have seen are like this. Also there other stereotype says that gay men are very strong and built. Something traditionally believed to be true for straight men. However we cant say all gay men and all gay women are exactly the same. Like straight people there is different types of men and women.

I know many masculine women and many feminine guys. It's not just a stereotype. Some stereotypes exist for a reason and they aren't all bad. It just means that a good amount of people represent something in-order for a stereotype to exist. They aren't true for everyone.

I didn't deny that they exist. Btw, how do you know about their sexuality?
And for some stereotypes you need a background to know how they came to existence. Some are simply plain wrong.

I'm bisexual, have dated lesbians, and have tons if gay friends. The whole plaid association with lesbian-ism to me is due to the fact that plaid is very gender neutral. I have found that many lesbians enjoy playing with gender roles and have their own fetishes. Needless to say, plaid can simply imply south-western style and some degree of professionalism IF it's a plaid button up.
