Is it normal people don't get made fun of for speech issues?

I am not complaining I just noticed something. If people make fun of something no one ever makes fun of speech problems. They could make fun of glasses, and being fat, or being too short, or gay even retarded children. However people generally seem to think speech problems as something you cant make fun of. No matter where you go.

I knew someone at school who had a severe stutter and he got bullied for it

I had a severe lisp and a stutter - partially related to anxiety - until I was about 12 or 13. I had speech therapy all but erased it. I can say that "people with speech impediments do not get bullied" is not true at all.

I can't speak for everywhere in the world, but where I come from homophobia is beyond the pale, and far more taboo than making fun of someone with a speech impediment.

My best friend has a speech impediment. She's so shy and timid because of it, it's nothing to make fun of.
It can't be helped so why should it be something to make fun of?

I know that. Being someone who has glasses and used to have braces, I used to get bullied.
Im just saying that the things that can't be helped, people seem to bully on. So why would anyone make fun of a shy person who can't speak properly?

In high school everybody with a lisp was presumed gay. Everybody with a stutter, well it was noted as a stutter and they were perceived as being less functional than their well spoken peers, perhaps on the tad side of retarded and slightly less confident in themselves because of what they lacked in vocal delivery. I'm not saying it was right that they were thought of in that way but I must say that's how they were perceived.

There might be a lot of people with speech problems where you live and they just don't think it's that big of a deal.

Often times they are bullied for it. The same goes for people who are: disabled, have a form of mental retardation, have dwarfism, neurological conditions in general that are apparent (not easy to hide), people with varying amounts of obesity, people who are thin, etc. Just because you don't witness it, doesn't mean that it doesn't occur.

I used to have a parasitic yeast called,"Candida Albicans or Candida overgrowth", and it while it attacked my whole body, it especially attacked my brain and caused me many neurological issues. Issues with speech, like difficulty getting words out, problems with pronunciation, voice coming out to small (etc.) were some of the symptoms. I did get bullied for my difficulty with pronunciation. I never saw a speech therapist even though I really to. I don't get why people are sometimes so lacking in morals when it comes to things like health conditions.

It's a pretty cruel and petty thing to do. Only someone with no class at all would do it, and there's nothing funny about it.

Says the guy that's constantly talking shit about people different than him, while being 3 times their age and a filthy liar.

Speaking of no class at all; why petey my boy, how nice of you to come back to us.
Your absence has been sorely missed. Your loving words are such a comfort.
But Mommy (the only woman who has ever seen you naked, you poor thing) is calling you for your bath time, run along so she can wash you ALL over, bye, bye now.

My friend used to have a pretty bad stutter and she was bullied for it. She also used to be on the school morning announcements and people would LAUGH at her.
