Everyone I know calls me a hipster (musically, anyway) because I don't listen to all that mainstream shit. I love a variety of music; hip-hop, pop, rock, metal, techno, reggae. I do like some mainstream, but not most. I'm not one of those metalheads who think they're special because they only listen to one genre. But if I go on the Internet, it seems like everyone likes a great variety that doesn't include much mainstream. But my friends think I'm a hipster. Why? IIN?

    I'm like you. I listen to a variety. I'll even go as far as listening to music from Africa. But I listen to it, not to seem special or superior to others, but because I literally feel what I listen to.

    I don't listen to it to be different, it just what I like. And as I said, most people on the Internet that I know are like me. What I'm asking is why do my friends in real life think I'm a hipster due to this?

    My friend is a hipster, I didn't know what it was until recently lol. You don't need listen to labels, just listen to what you like.
