Is it normal off drugs w/out rehab?

I'm nearly 30, female. I've been a drug addict for about 10 years but really want to quite. ( IV speed and pot) I really want to do it with out rehab. Is it stupid to think I can do it with out rehab?

It can be done. Probation is a sonofabitch.

Many people that go to rehab end up back in their old routines, the problem is that they were pressured or mandated to go. Every single success story that you will hear is from those people who said they wanted to quit and meant it. If you really want to quit you will, without rehab, just be careful when it comes to withdrawals. Also, you must stay away from every single person that does drugs too, you may be able to hang out with them and resist for a while, but in the end you might fall into the same patterns by hanging out with the wrong people. Just like you did in the first place. Treatment or rehab is only for those people who do not know how to help themselves, and it is mostly counseling. Find a great support group and everytime you miss those druggie friends remind yourself of all the years that they helped you with wasting your life away.

Quitting highly addictive drugs without help is technically possible yet highly improbable. Imagine trying to fix a car with no tools. Or a coffee without a cigarette assuming you smoke.

  • What about Narcotics Anonymous to help once you've stopped? I've never done "IV" or "speed", but I know you can go cold turkey with marijuana because it's not physically addictive. Maybe you should ask a doctor because they treat people all the time for withdrawal.

I've known drug addicts that were forced into rehab and it didn't work. Once they decided to be serious about quitting, they did it without the help of a program. This isn't for everyone. Just be realistic, how stubborn are you and can you discipline yourself? Good luck!

It's definitely do able, it just seriously sucks! I came off of a massive daily dose of morphine (+500mg per day) cold turkey after 6 years. I've been clean for 7 months now. Before u try, make sure that a trusted doc knows what u r planning and that you have done some research. There are some great websites and lots of herbal remedies to help. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do, by passed labor by far! Not fun and I lost 25 lbs in 2 weeks but totally worth it! Good luck and let me know if I can help

no its not stupid but not wise either. i dont think its an issue with the pot but i am not so sure about speed. its probably a good idea to talk to your doctor at least and see what options they will give you and then go from there. good luck!!
