Is it normal not to follow know/follow modern pop culture?

I grew up in a household that didn't care much about following trends in music/TV, and as a result didn't learn what a lot of my peers seemed to know about (celebrities, actors, etc). Over time I managed to learn the names and sometimes faces of some, but that's all superficial since I don't listen to their music, watch their shows, or know much of anything about them. I don't care that much, but sometimes it gets awkward when someone mentions some figure from their favorite show, and I just can't relate at all. For instance, one time a woman selling newspapers was trying to chat me up by asking if I liked Scotty McCreery (had to look that up to remember) from American Idol... Who?

This probably just means that you're actually cool.

I unplugged from music and pop culture years ago when "urban sounds" started pervading everything. I have never regretted my decision. :)

I'm also the same, I also don't care about any kind of sports, tournaments or big men fighting. My father never influenced me, because if he did enjoy those I'm sure I would too. When people mention celebrities, and give me the look because I don't know who they are, I just don't give a fuck.

I don't have a clue about current popular culture and haven't cared for the past 30 years. The music is boring and the same format and the people are just shallow. I am also too ould to care anyway.

No that's not technically normal but that shouldn't be consequential to your life.

You'll be a more interesting person for it. Just have the confidence to pursue what you ARE interested in....or you will be as big a bore as Scotty Macwhoever
