Is it normal not to deprive yourself of anything?

All my life I've worked 2 jobs and saved hard. I paid off my mortgage and have never asked anyone for anything at all. I don't even like being indebted to people for a cup of coffee. Anyhow, I've noticed that a lot of people who receive quite a lot in State benefits never ever deprive themselves of anything. They have zero savings and have often spent their money on drink, smoking, beauty treatments, new clothes, etc. They may have no money for necessities are often ask to borrow money from me.

Is it just that they are unable to budget, or believe they should enjoy themselves to the full without planning for the future. They know that the State will look after them in the future but how do they live from hand to mouth all the time.

Is it normal to enjoy yourself by spending every dime?

You are the smarter one since you have savings. That is good to deprive yourself. At least you know you can have security.

There's a balance to be certain. You shouln't entirely deprive yourself, get a new shirt and go out drinking every now and then if that's your thing, but I often see people who don't have the money to spare spending needlessly and frivolously.
At the same time I can't help but sort of feel bad for them, especially when I see a poor family putting themselves in debt trying to give their kids everything. And oftentimes those kids are unnappreciative as FUCK for what their parents do.

I think it kind of depends on intention. Some people just never learned how to budget or save, people who were raised in poverty with little access to education, things like that. Then there are people who leech off the system, and that isn't right.

    • I absolutely agree with you that it may be lack of education re budgeting!

One thing that I have realised is that their benefit 'pay check' is guaranteed each week / fortnight whereas those people who go out to work, never know if they are going to be made redundant and so save a little for a rainy day.

There must surely be a balance somewhere.

It's normal for them because poorer people tend to have the idea that money doesn't last so they must spend it as soon as they get it.
Those who actually worked for their money understand the value of it all.

I hate those types of people. If natural selection still existed in the human population these idiots would rot and die, thank god. You and me would save some of the food we hunt, incase it runs out, whereas they would stuff their fucking faces and they DIE when it ran out. FUCKERS!!!!!!!!!
