Is it normal not to be able to sleep around my dad?

My dad stays with me only on the weekends. I can't sleep when he's around very well. He's a very stressed out person in general. During the week when Im alone, I have to "catch up" on my sleep and I end up sleeping like 10 hours a night!

since i was brought back here i might as well try and say something helpful this time

it's hard to not be affected by other people's stress, specially someone you have no choice but to be around. i imagined that maybe just the thought and anxiety that you won't sleep well already keeps you up when he gets there. you didn't give much information so i'm just guessing. perhaps if you prepare yourself emotionally/mentally before he arrives you'll be able to better focus on not letting it interfere with the quality of your life so much. there's that little story about a guy who goes to a newsstand every morning and buys the paper from this nasty person who he always treats kindly. when one day his friend witnesses it and questions why he just says he won't allow that person to determine how his day will be

No. Have you tried to address your problems with him?

Have you tried talking to him about it.

Sometimes people are stressed because there is no one to talk to about whats bothering them.

When they get the talking they calm down.

I don't know. But assuming you have your own room and a bit of privacy and a decent bed...there really is no reason you shouldn't be getting any sleep.

So unless he molested you when you were younger or if you have other reasons why you would think he would come over to your room and harm you...it's not really normal you would lose any sleep over him
