Is it normal not is it normal questions?

Virtually all of my posts aren't "Is It Normal?" or advice related questions. I often find that the posts I prefer on the site are like this too. I've never been bothered by the posts which don't need advice or to know whether they're normal. However, recently I've started to wonder if these posts would be better suited to another forum? I'm starting to feel a bit weird about posting what I do here. Is it normal to feel like this? Do you feel like it's fine to post anything, or do you sometimes worry that you're somehow deviating from the main "purpose" of the site?

I feel exactly the same. My posts aren't very useful (either in general or to me, although I did once ask for advice and people were very nice and helpful). If my posts mean anything at all, it's usually just for me as I'm canvassing opinion on something I don't have a feel for. But a good majority of my posts are really pointless and probably shouldn't be posted anywhere, let alone here.

Having said all that, I like the variety and I'd get bored here if every post was of the same type. I like that sometimes silly ones get through and amusing ones too. I'd hate to think of subverting the whole purpose of the site but I do actually believe a little colour and light relief makes the site better (and makes me more likely to answer serious questions too).

It's difficult to know what amount should go through but I think the moderators are doing a very good job at the moment (and don't get any praise, only criticism when people think something is wrong). So I'd say thank you to both you and to the moderators. I think your type of post needs to stay here as the balance seems good.

Well sometimes the moderators are assholes -.-

They won't let through some pretty creative troll polls/questions since a while which takes some of the charm of this website... Also I had some pretty serious polls/stories which got rejected too and that bothers me because there are some stupid stories here and I wonder what got them past moderation if not the drunk or high mods ;D

P.S. I personally think your post are always pretty helpful or at least in some kind funny and are always really intelligent too and that's what is reflected in the thumbs up you always get because most people including me like your comments and won't want to miss you on this page^^

First off, thank you! I don't know why but I suddenly seem to be getting a lot of thumbs up (like I did when I first started on the site). After a few months everything I said got thumbed down to -10 and then for a year or so, I always seemed to stay at 1 no matter what I said. It was like it was being deliberately manipulated by someone and now they've gone.

As for the mods, I know it's frustrating to create something and have it denied but I've started to look at it dispassionately. The site exists to make money and the posts that are allowed through have to draw people to the site. Sometimes that conflicts with them being the best, the most creative, or the funniest. It reflects what people Google as opposed to what the community wants, although I've noticed the mods are quite good at letting things through that aren't really good business for the site.

    • I thumbed your comment up because it was helpful, which is usually the case with your comments. It helped me work something pretty obvious out, which went right over my head, as per usual.:P

I was talking to another user about IIN seeming a lot more positive recently. I agree that the moderators do a pretty good job too, which is probably part of it. Maybe people don't appreciate them as much as they might if they knew how much crap doesn't get approved. Also, the posts themself are pretty good these days. For one, there don't seem to be many posts about IIN itself (the bad ones) or "cliques", etc., so I wondered if that had something to do with it.

Either way, I think most of the thumbs up you get are deserved. Although, who knows, maybe people just thumb up because others have. I don't think that's the case with most users, though. You just make good comments!

That's actually really nice to hear because that's pretty much always my intention on the site (I don't always succeed, but I do really try to).

I've also had private conversations recently about IIN being more positive. It's like one or more people who had controlling and/or negative influences have left us. I used to do sneaky little things behind the scenes to jiffy people along and improve morale here but I feel like I don't need to at the moment. All is good!

As for the thumbs up, I think people actually do thumb things up that have previously been thumbed up. I know I should be flattered but I do think I get more than I deserve and sometimes I'm a bit embarrassed by that. Still, it's better than some of the hostility of the past when I was thumbed down just for being me.
