Is it normal normal that "made in america"sentiments piss me off?

Let me start by saying that I love my country. I wouldn't live anywhere else. But lately it seems like everywhere I turn people are on some sort of "made in America" kick. I truly understand the need for American jobs. I really do. But I absolutely hate it when people become obsessed with making sure everything is American produced. I work at a pizza place, and today a woman got angry because our anchovies imported from the Middle East. Needless to say it was quite frustrating. I also work with a guy who refuses to buy anything not made in America. NOTHING. I find it foolish that a grown man gets angry when he finds out that the spoon he's using was made in China. Or maybe I'm just unpatriotic.

I just hate how we started importing like mad, while the American manufacturers move overseas. (Fuck you Levis!)

Ironically, our companies move out of America, while the overseas manufacturers (like Toyota) move TO America.

I dont mind imported goods, but I dont want to EVER see a car from China being sold here.(the big reason they aren't here now is because they fail every major safety test)

Alright let me explain why people get in these trends of saying "Made here". Having some imported good is alright having more imported next to exported is very bad. Right now the US is giving jobs away to all these other country and NOTHING is being made in the US. Now while US is culturally diverse this type of stuff is bad for the economy. Also the impression the US gives about Middle easterners it sounds hypocritical to be buying from them. This issue can happen with any country and its something all countries need to pay attention to. Export good/import bad. So if a bunch of people are suddenly saying "MADE IN AMERICA" its a sign the economy is failing.

All fine and dandy. But It's difficult to take people seriously when they go about it so rabidly.

I know what you mean, but I like to think these people do it out of good. When you look around your house and 98% of the things in it are made in China...you know there's a problem. America used to be the anchor of the world...but we're slowly getting shoved aside by China & other countries. It's scary! D:

It probably wouldn't be a problem if many Americans were willing to work excruciatingly long hours for very little pay. The factories that most of our stuff is made in employs people who work for about 8 dollars a day. Is this right? Certainly not. But if the government would stop giving people handouts it wouldn't be a problem. The citizens of this country needs to get off their asses and start moving. Not stand around griping about where our cutlery was made.

you'd work 20 hours for $.50 an hour? (Thats only $10 a day!,and the third world people are forced to work for much, much less)

Im a person whose more than willing to work, but I still need a decent wage. I know someone with four kids who makes under 25k a year.(and i'm not talking a steady income either.) talk about hard.

Its true there are lazy people out there, and I cant stand those who take advantage of welfare, or feel they should get a lot of money for nothing. I'm willing to work, but it needs to be decent, and that's why our corporations hate us. the kind of wages in the third world countries is not even enough for the people to live on!

That's why Corporations go there! to take advantage of this.

I agree! I can't stand seeing a "Ghetto Fab" woman with 6 kids pushing a Mercedes Benz while standing in line at a grocery store with food stamps holding a Louis Vuitton Purse!!!

            -_-

& wow, that was the only run on sentence! LOL
