Is it normal nobody listens to me?

Whenever there is a problem that I know the answer to and try to tell people I am ignored. For example I was in a truck with someone looking for a house yesterday and I saw the address and the driver says "no, I'm certain that is not it" and continues driving until 30 minutes later they realize that was the house. This happens all the time with friends, family, work and pretty much any other situation. It is very annoying and I think it is why I have anger problems. I know why they do this too. I have a neurological disorder that makes me impaired at certain things so people assume I am stupid at everything even though I have things I am very intelligent at. I feel very angry about this but the only solution I can think of is not to deal with people but that would be a very boring life.

There's so many joking comments about not listening to the OP's story. It's a shame. :(

What were you saying OP? I'll listen!

  • That sucks, it usually tends to be how you speak though. I'm quite a prick so people I know tend to switch off when I'm talking. But I just become stern and they suddenly pay attention, commanding a room with your voice is a skill but anyone can learn how to do it well with practice.

That's for sharing that information and I'm sorry for the difficulties you have to face. Is there any kind of cognitive therapy that might help with communication skills?

I met a guy with Aspergers recently who was a very nice person but when he started talking about something he wouldn't stop and was unable to tell that I was starting to lose interest in what he was saying. Now I will admit that my part in this was that I did not assert myself in stating that I had to leave because I didn't want to hurt his feelings. Also he had a tendency to stretch out what he was saying. Overall it wasn't a bad experience but it was awkward for me.

        • I've been to cognitive therapy and while my social skills have improved quite a bit over the years, therapy isn't very helpful nor are there much services for adults with autistic spectrum disorders. Most of what I've learned over the years is just from having to deal with people in real life.

I understand exactly how you feel. I get that and I don't even have a neurological problem.
It is really frustrating, but just feel good inside yourself for knowing you were right and they were wrong.
