Is it normal no one knows the meaning of commitment?

Young people do not understand what commitment is. They switch and swap and break up over nothing. Most don't even make it to the year mark and this is considered the norm. I was under the assumption being with someone meant you cared about them. So why are relationships so short? Are they suppose to be this way? Is changing who you with every few weeks normal? Am I strange for thinking it should be something more when it isn't? What does being in a relationship mean? I really have no understanding of it. The fact people get married is a miracle given how carelessly you can toss away your boy/girlfriend.

    Calm down. I don't think it's really that young people don't understand commitment its simply that they don't want it. Alternatively hook ups are more easier to obtain. However, there are those, I don't want to say few cause I'm sure there a lot of people who want lasting relationships, who try to find the one and want a committed partner. I think you just have to know where to look.

        I really don't want to sound like some nice guy who's bitterly living in the friendzone, but that's really the only place I can think of looking. Try to find a friend first, someone who's being nice to you because that's just in their nature, not because they like you in a romantic way. It's this person that I honestly think will actually want a committed relationship because they value your friendship and just being around you.

    Young people don't want commitment and aren't mature enough. This is my opinion being that I'm almost 20 so still kinda in that age range. It is also why I am waiting until females my age a more settled in life and ready to commit.

    Its normal for someone to go through lots of people they date. How else would they find the right person they are compatable with?

    Just because two people get together doesn't mean its going to last. What's wrong with experiencing different people?? Nothing at all. It doesn't mean they don't know what commitment is, it means they are smart enough to see that nothing lasts forever. And marriage should be outlawed.

    My boyfriend and I started dating in Grade 9 and are both in college now. I know many couples in my school didnt last but not everyone's relationship is the same

It's not that relationships mean less, it's that those people haven't even formed a realationship. They're just fooling around. Relationships still mean something, people these days just don't take teh time to form that kind of bond. You'll find someone, it'll just take time
