Is it normal my 4yo talks about ghost and killed people all the time?

My 4 years old is talking all the time about ghosts, killed people, and death. I thought this will gone after Halloween, but is still stock on his mind. He is having nightmares sometimes, I explained to him Halloween is just a joke, but these things still stock on his mind. I encouraged him to pray when he is afraid at nights and talk to Jesus since we practice Catholic religious view.
Is this just his imagination? Or could this be real? It has been with us for almost a year.
How can I help him? What can I do?

You can barely speak properly. Maybe that's why he is having nightmares because he want's you to be a "killed person".

and yet you were unable to surmise what it was the OP was trying to say, you were not receptive at all to the message? or did you just focus on the grammar technicalities

and technically, the boy is four years old he cannot possibly distinguish at this age what is good or bad grammar

"In Internet slang, a troll (pron.: /ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is someone who posts inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[3] The noun troll may also refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted."
While the word troll and its associated verb trolling are associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels subjective, with trolling describing intentionally provocative actions and harassment outside of an online context. For example, mass media has used troll to describe "a person who defaces Internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families."

From experience i know several foreign exchange students in my class who genuinely speak and write this way, their English tenses are not exactly eloquent, not to mention their accents. However, I can still understand them perfectly. I've seen how they are harassed and ridiculed for it by pompous american students with their perfect english, with such statements similiar to yours "you can barely speak properly.." etc

Your first response did two things; if for one this was indeed a troll which you assumed, then you did "feed the troll". Wouldnt your "correct action" have been to simply ignore it, not even bother with such trolls?
Second no need for the extensive introductory definition of a troll. Simply saying the word "troll" would have sufficed.

But by all means copy and paste from Merriam Webster as much as you please...

Yet, another reason why we need calendar reform.

    Hallowe'en is not a joke.
It most likely had it's origins in a Gaelic festival called Samhain, and was later integrated into the predominant religion, of people who believe in the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, in the year 835.
Please see the following, should you be interested:

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samhain

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween

Many people once believed in many of these Archaic religious concepts, and some still do.

What you are doing, is reinforcing these Archaic beliefs in your own child. You are teaching your child, to talk to a dead person who lived about 2,000 years ago. Then you are instructing the child to perform a repetitious ceremonial behaviour in order to communicate with things that do not exist. I would suggest, to cease and desist from instructing the child in this way, until the child is old enough to make an informed decision on their own.

You have used a term which divides a particular sect of people, from other people who also believe in the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. This term also divides these people, from people who have other religious beliefs, as well as dividing these people, from people who are not religious. The use of this term, might be offensive to some people, whether they are religious, or whether they are not religious.

Why are you creating divisions in society?

This is a person whose child is getting to an age where they become aware of and afraid of death, I understand what you're saying about religion and agree that it shouldn't be forced on children, but I think your argument is beside the point a bit. I actually think that it's another topic altogether and is completely useless and unhelpful in this situation, especially if the parents are trying to offer comfort to their terrified child. At four, the idea of an afterlife and some kind of spiritual safety may be more comforting than the probable truth of nothing, what four year old will be able to grasp that?

OP, I think if your child is really suffering because he is afraid, maybe you could try consulting a doctor? There are child psychologists and counsellors out there who may be able to guide him through the stress it's probably putting on his poor little mind. Make sure you talk to your child about it too!

      http://diaryofamom.tjandpals.com/2011/08/10/talking-children-death/
Apparently some research has been done that suggests talking your child through the concept of dying will help to reduce fear and stress

You had probably, inadvertently stated what the problem is. The parents are instructing the child in "spirits", or "spiritual safety", as you had put it.
        This is confusing the child.
The parents should be instructing the child, in what is real, not fantasy.

'Spirits', in any form, do not exist, in this Universe or in any other Universe.

Some people stubbornly, cling on to these archaic beliefs.

If you do not believe me, then answer the following:

Please describe the Physical properties of a 'spirit'.

Let me ask you this. Have you ever encountered such "paranormal activity?" Although I am a chemistry major, and adhere to the scientific method very rigorously, it is extremely unscientific to say "it does not exist, in any way, in this or any other universe" because we DO NOT KNOW the entire scope of the vast universe, or the physical matter of existence for that matter.

What i am suggesting is the possibility of, not necessarily "spirits", but rather extra dimensional "beings" that exist. I have personally experienced such events that defy the physical laws we know, that have no scientific explanation. Ive been in a room where the light switched off AND THEN the door slammed shut BY ITSELF. I saw it with my eyes. Such events are too coincidental to happen right after the other, dont you think? I was about ten years old, and to this day it still gives me chills
However i would never conclude what it was or what it was NOt either, i am just open to the skepticism of what the hell that was that evening

To answer your question, in the first part, no, I have never, "encountered such paranormal activity", and neither has anyone else, for the simple reason that nothing in this Universe, or in any other Universe, could be described as 'paranormal'. Everything in the Universe, consists of 'natural' properties, including artifacts created by technologically advanced Sentient life forms. Because we do not have knowledge or do not [fully] understand something, does not mean it is 'paranormal'.
I have begun to understand the actual nature of the Universe, albeit at a very basic level.
We actually understand the massenergy portion of the Universe quite well. We run into trouble, due to relativity related barriers, such as time relativity, event horizons and 'optical' (electromagnetic) distortion. Our major problem, is an inability to 'see' beyond time / relativity barriers imposed by Albert Einstein. He was essentially correct mathematically (algebraically), however, conceptually he had made a fundamental error. This is what I call 'banging your head against Einstein's wall'. I have now found a way around this limitation, and I have been able to conceptualize the actual nature of the Universe (with some very surprising outcomes).
What we are struggling to understand, is the so-called 'Dark matter / Dark energy' portion of the Universe. More technically correct, this should be described as 'quarkenergy', and that portion of the Universe should be described as the 'Quark Realm'.
It is hidden all around you, if you know how and where to look.
This leads us to the second part of your inquiry...

We (humans) have a tendency to make things more complex, than they really need to be.
We invent things like "extra dimensions", where they, in reality, do not exist. Albert Einstein invented one, we know this as the so-called 'spacetime dimension'.
In reality, there are only three dimensions to this Universe, and we are very familiar with this.

As for your 'experience', when you were ten years old, it was probably due to someone playing a practical joke on you, using some fishing line to manipulate the light switch and door.

Please do not use the Archaic term for a fictitious nether world, or it's euphemized forms.

Your blunt dismissal of something you have never experienced yourself is quite the statement. Furthermore, the fact that you negate the experiences of other humans from your very own understanding, which you yourself have admitted you have merely "begun to understand...at a very basic level", what is your credibility? I am genuinely asking what your major/field of study is.

You are assuming that I am a feeble minded "spiritual" person who clings to esoteric, spiritual, religious...etc beliefs of faith, belief in "god" or "spirits" "demons" and all that nonsense. Quite the opposite actually. What I did was DESCRIBE an EXPERIENCE that i cannot define, limit, conclude, or negate because there is no certainty as to what it was. I described with no conclusions or references to the mystical/god/demons/archaic primitive beliefs...etc to which you quickly jumped to conclusions and assumptions ( implying i cling to "archaic" beliefs, and going as far as saying it was someone using a fishing line..dude are you serious man? your arrogance there is astounding...and further claiming the universe is "simple"

Lets rid of the word "paranormal", now we are on common ground. I'll assign a neutral word: The "occurrence" which took place that day I was young, enlighten me, you say can be explained by "natural properties"? which ones? Which universal laws or properties did the "occurence" follow?

And what do you mean by artifacts?

This Quark Realm is hidden all around me, in the electromagnetic spectrum/wavelength/visible spectrum sense? what would make it visible if i knew "how and where to look"? (it would be consistent on your part to suggest it be due natural "laws", due to membrane receptors)

And what is the difference between your "conception" of the universe, and einstein's "conception" of the universe (which you deem fundamentally incorrect) Essentially you are presenting two conceptions, your and his, the difference is that you are saying his is "wrong". What is it about yours that is progressive? How can you know in the future someone else wont likewise discredit your perception as "fundamentally wrong"? Niels Bohr had his atomic theory "modified" by those who contributed and built from that theory and progressed it

Its somewhat ironic that now you are explaining yourself very vaguely in terms of perceptions, conceptions, and almost in an esoteric sense, which lead to my asking you more questions than you answered.

And i am a chemistry/biology major, im assuming you are studying astronomy/engineering, so i am genuinenly asking for your input

most young children don't just talk about they see the dead but not as walking corpse's but as spirits some kids grow out of it as they get older, others don't such as myself. but that is only because at a young age a lot of kids are psychic. if those nightmares eventually run out then they will see more than just ghosts they will feel them and it will grow on them until the point that.... they either go two ways they go mentally insane where they will use drugs to get it out of their heads. or they'll go the other way where they can speak to the spirits and even talk to them don't be frightened by my answer. Fate will show you're child the way.

Prayer won't help. Either take him to a therapist or his general practitioner incase whatever he's experiencing could be caused by a neurological issue (in that case his doctor would refer you to a neurologist) or something else.

you have already made a good start. just pursue an individual spiritually gifted with perception or a priest trained in exorcism, along with your own prayers for guidance, find the source of these experiences. it is unlikely to be his imagination, and since there is fear it is likely this is a demonic origin to all this. prepare to resist this evil, and what ever you do, DO NOT challenge, accept, appease, or invite any evil spirits. if it is of demonic origins, it will get bad fast as you resist the forces of evil. do no be discourage, and know if you had done nothing it would have continued to get worse, beyond anything it will throw at you while you resist. as soon as you determine, if you determine, it is an unclean spirit/spirits find a trained exorcist. be not afraid, the Lord has not given you a spirit of fear but rather a spirit of love. love your son;love yourself; and above all, and with all your heart, love your God; do this and you will have victory.

    -love, and God Bless.
