Is it normal my usual brand of soy sauce tasted sweet as to salty?

I do not know if anyone else would notice a thing like this. I noticed my normal brand of soy sauce tasted very sweet. Its not normally this sweet its usually overly salty. I tend to prefer salty to sugar. Is it strange it tastes different. I compared bottles and they are exactly the same. Am I just strange? This is not a sign it was tampered with maybe?

Normal. My twin sister loves to put soy sauce all over her sushi
'^ o ^ Well sometimes the soy sauce is sweet (she was fine with it.)

    A few explanations:

    - Something else you'd eaten made it seem sweet

    - The recipe has changed (doubtful, it should be very salty)

    - Mistake at the factory (I once had a pack of soft drinks that all had a massive over-concentration of sodium benzoate. I felt ill for days)

    - The bottle is out of date, has been stored in direct sunlight, heat, or near foods with contaminating flavours

I'd either throw it away or take it back to where you bought it and ask for a replacement.

Yeah, if there's a contaminated batch, one way of the manufacturer finding out is by people complaining. I've often seen companies offer "rewards" which both thank you for letting them know, and keep you as a loyal customer. Sometimes the rewards are vouchers for their products. For long-life products, sometimes they send a boxful.

If you take it to the supermarket, they may replace it with a different brand. Personally, I'd take it to the supermarket next time you visit because it's just easier, but I know many people send defective products off for the hope of reward. One guy I know got 192 packets of crisps and someone else got £25 to spend on breakfast cereals.

        • Are you serious? Well I do not feel like taking advantage of the company. I do not know but that would feel somehow wrong.

Absolutely serious. I've got a friend who almost goes out of his way to get defective food that he can send off for freebies. He used to do it with fast food outlets too but either they got wise to him or they got wise to everyone who tried it.

            • Oh well that just sounds like someone milking the system. I do not believe in such a thing. I probably should care more since so many times it ends up the other way and take advantage of me but I do not feel like go out of my way to attack these people.
