Is it normal my mouth doesn't really open when i speak?

I've been told by many people that my mouth doesn't really open (only opens slightly) when I talk, so it *looks* like I'm mumbling.

I had no idea of it until someone finally mentioned it to me a few years ago. At first I didn't believe her. When I asked around about it, everyone said they already noticed my mouth 'problem', but they thought it'd be rude to tell me about it straight.

I don't know if that's the reason why my voice is much softer (still audible though) compared to other people. Is it normal? Advice would be greatly appreciated.

I do it too! Ha! I do it though cause I fear people getting too close and smelling my breath. It's not intentional but theres prolly a reason for it ;)

omg me too. I am just a lazy talker and I dont talk loud. Normal, though probbaly annoying to some people. If you move to Aukland they all talk like that.

lol me too. My mom says Im a lazy talker(I guess I am).
I AM pretty lazy but I feel stupid if I enunciate every syllable like a British tv host or something
*shrugs* you could have a lot worse traits.

  • You should become maybe a ventriloquist...

    or perhaps a politician.

IMO the main thing is that others can understand what you say. So if that's the case, I wouldn't worry too much about what it looks like. We all have our quirks.
If your speech is a little unclear and your articulation needs to be improved, chances are your lip movements would follow suit, if you work on that aspect.
Have you tried speaking out loud in front of a mirror to see for yourself? There's no need to feel self-conscious. You could read from a text. I'm sure actors and the like do this sort of thing all the time :)
