Is it normal my gf has gone off sex since taking oral contraceptives?

We used to go at it like rabbits. Since she/we decided oral contraception was the best thing, she has lost libido totally. I have offered a vasectomy (I never wanted kids anyway); we both detest condoms, but she will not really talk about it.... To keep bringing it up makes me sound like a sex addict or something, but we have gone from at least twice a day every day to once a month if I'm lucky. And I miss it!

Yes, it's normal. Some oral contraceptives can cause a decrease in libido, along with other side effects like weight gain and bloating that can make a woman feel less than sexy. Switching to a different pill, preferably one with a lower dose of hormones, should alleviate these side effects.

This happened to me but my libido came back. Takes some time to adjust is all.

It's not uncommon. Forever_anon's advice to try a different pill is excellent; if the pills are the issue, that could be the easy fix.

Good luck. That's no fun for either of you, and I hope you find a solution that works for you both.

Having no sex is the best contraceptive.

Birth control is a bitch. They never tell you this in teh doctor office when they sell it off to you like it's the end of the world if you don't take it :/ I experienced loss of labido, constant headaches and a constant feeling of being pissed off... Maybe suggest this to her? I got an IUD since I swore off harmones. It's just this little thing they insert into your uterus. It's not for everyone, but I personally love it. It lasts for 5years. It makes your period heavier, but aside form that, you can have unprotected sex and you barely notice it's there. Or atleast that's how I'm handling it. It works better that BC too, since you don't have the chance of messing up the times. There is a chance of it slipping, but you can check and make sure it hasn't. Maybe get her to look into it? I think it's great. I know A LOT of women who have it too.

    • Thanks for your advice. Constant pissed-off feeling and headaches have been part of the bargain here as well.

  • Thanks to you all for your constructive comments. Much appreciated. Still frustrated though, if you get my drift.

Been months now since the, ahem, thing, so not sure if libido will adjust back.

To just get, er, snip without telling her seems a bit dramatic.

    Any more suggestions?

It will bounce right back. When I was on birth control, it took less than a month for me to feel normal again. My labido came back 10 fold. Read my otehr comment if you have time. I went through the same thing as her, and I f=found a solution that worked great for me.

try a different contraceptive? if the pill is having side effects there's still the injection and the implant. I personally use the implant and it actually made me horny as hell 24/7 lol
