He just randomly said "I got you a ring but I cant give it to you yet because I dont know if you want me to give it to you for your birthday or wait until another time"
WTF shes so upset, crying right now that he told her about it instead of surprising her by getting down on one knee right then and there.

My husband did it over the phone. He mailed me the ring and told me to call him before I opened the package. When I realize what was happening my heart fell a little, but I sucked it up because we lived 700 miles apart at that time and I imagine that he probably thought this was reasonably romantic. One of my friends was with me at the time and a few of my family was in the next room. They didn't say anything but it was obvious in their faces that they all disapproved of his method.
It sounds like he was just trying ti gauge her interest. Remember that life is not always a fairytale. She should be happy she has a guy who loves her enough to propose to her. If that was the response I got, I'd have fucking ran. Can you say drama?

He's not necessarily a jerk, lol. He probably just sucks at thinking like a woman. Tell your friend to stop crying, suck it up, and tell her man to do better the next time he proposes to her.
i dont understand why she is upset. she is going to get the ring regardless so what is her problem? is she one of those materialistic girls? if she is, thats a real shame. but i am not sure if she is really ready to be in a serious relationship if this is how she reacts over something small and petty like this.
I don't think he was trying to be a jerk. I actually think he was just trying to be nice. It seems like he just wanted know when she would officially like to be proposed to.
